Welcome to Mrs. Thacker’s School Notes Web Page!!

Friendly Reminders:

•    Parents-please check your child’s planner, yellow folder & rocket record every night!
•    There is NO SCHOOL next week-November 22-26.  I hope you all have an enjoyable and restful week with your families for Thanksgiving.

Subject Notes:

**Updated**Reading:  As we are working our way through the different genres we have had the opportunity to read several great books.  Last week we read a story about the husky dog, Balto, that helped save the city of Nome, Alaska in 1925.  The students had the opportunity to also hear the story of another husky, Togo, which actually ran more of the trail than Balto did, but did not receive the credit he deserved for his hard work.  The students had an opportunity to reflect on the people in their lives who have helped them achieve great things while receiving little credit.

Spelling:  Your child will have 2 homework assignments each week.  You will find the spelling list and homework assignment descriptions in the yellow folder on MONDAY of each week.  Please be looking for this.  We will take a practice test on Thursday and the regular test on Friday of each week.

**Updated**Math:  We have now completed our lessons on time and will be completing our unit on money by the end of this week.  Your students should be completely confident and successful when working on the following skills with little or no help from an adult:

3 digit addition & subtraction (with regrouping)
Estimation and rounding (ex: 49 rounded to the nearest ten is 50)
Telling time to the minute and hour
Estimating the amount of time an activity requires (ex:  watching a movie is about 2hrs-not 2 mins.)
Reading a chart or table with a schedule on it
Counting Money with coins and bills
Creating equivalent sets of money
Comparing sets of money (greater than, less than)

**New**Writing:  We are continuing to write in class everyday.  The students have published several new pieces which have been placed in their individual writing portfolios.  If you have a chance we would love for you to drop by and take a look at what we’ve been doing.  Our most recent published piece is a personal narrative that describes an important event or day in our life.

This Friday is the end of the 2nd six weeks grading period.  Your children have been doing amazing work.  Encourage them to keep it up!
If you have not had a conference with me, I would love to meet with you soon.  Please call or e-mail to set up a conference.
