This comprehensive foundation course, designed to be one semester in length, provides opportunities to explore family relationships and personal development, personal management, and planning for the future. Emphasis is on the importance of the family, effective communications skills, management skills, how to get along with others including family members and peers, decision making, acceptance of responsibility, and child care practices that promote positive development. Other content addresses positive self-image, nutrition, wellness, personal appearance, managing multiple roles, and career options.
Skills for Living…Weeks 1 thru 6:
Week 1- Students will explore the elements of housing and interior design applications and use design applications to create a design board.
Week 2- Students will explain how family relationships affect personal development and demonstrate behaviors that contribute to satisfying interpersonal relationships.
Week 3- Students will apply principles of effective communication and evaluate characteristics of good citizens and leadership skills.
Week 4- Students will summarize characteristics of children at developmental stages.
Week 5- Students will examine nutritional needs of children and determine safety procedures for childcare.
Week 6- Students will plan developmentally appropriate activities for children.
Grading Policy
Students will be graded according to these guidelines…
Class Work/Homework = 45%
Projects/Products= 20%
Tests = 20 %
Six Weeks Tests= 15%
Total = 100%
Make up Policy
Students will be allowed two school days after an absence for every day missed to complete assignments or tests missed during that absence.
