Please note that the Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness class is a high school class and the class content will be taught at a high school level. In addition, students are expected to act in a mature way when covering sensitive subject matters. Students should fully understand that they will be expected to behave as if they were in a high school, upper level classroom.

Career Portals Syllabus
Education Training, Hospitality and Tourism and Health Science
This middle school course supports a culture of high expectations and continuous self-improvement that lays a foundation for success in high school, future studies, and careers. Students will explore college and career planning within the Education and Training, Hospitality /Tourism, and Health Sciences career clusters. Students will research labor market information, practice job-seeking skills, and develop documents that are required for successful employment. Students will use self-knowledge to explore and set realistic goals.
Weeks 1 thru 6:
Weeks 1 thru 6:
Week 1- Discover personal interests and skills and evaluate career opportunities and requirements in the Hospitality and Tourism career cluster.
Week 2- Compare programs of study and synthesize labor market trends in the Hospitality and Tourism career cluster.
Week 3- Identify professional organizations, which support careers in the Hospitality and Tourism career cluster and determine how ethics and teamwork affect workplace success.
Week 4- Devise a Texas Achievement plan that supports further employment development in the Hospitality and Tourism career cluster.
Week 5 Develop resume and business letter writing skills to improve success in obtaining employment.
Week 6- Evaluate credit and credit management skills, determine the best and most appropriate ways to use credit, and identify ways to avoid identity theft.

Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness Syllabus
This laboratory course allows students to use principles of lifetime wellness and nutrition to help them make informed choices that promote wellness as well as pursue careers related to hospitality and tourism, education and training, human services, and health sciences.
Weeks 1 thru 6:
Week 1- Discover why accidents happen and how to avoid injuries.
Week 2- Evaluate overall environmental health and apply key processes to maintain a healthier environment.
Week 3- Analyze personal nutrition and discover the importance of nutrition in personal health and wellness.
Week 4- Discover how to use the food guide pyramid to plan and prepare daily meals and snacks.
Week 5 Interpret the benefits of physical activity and choose activities that will help improve personal fitness.
Week 6- Discuss the relevance of fitness goals and choose an individual activity plan that supports personal fitness goals.
Grading Policy
Students will be graded according to these guidelinesÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂ
Class Work/Homework = 45%
Projects/Products= 20%
Tests = 20 %
Six Weeks Tests= 15%
Total = 100%
Make up Policy
Students will be allowed two school days after an absence for every day missed to complete assignments or tests missed during that absence.
