Welcome back! I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing summer!
This will be a very important, exciting, and wonderful year in your student's life. First grade is a time in which the student becomes more independent and takes on more responsibility for his/her learning!
It is my hope that I can help them make that transition as smooth and exciting as possible. In order to help me do so, I would ask that you familiarize yourself with the classroom procedures and expectations. By doing this, you will be able to share in your student's experiences.
I will update this site at least once a week, and if you sign up to be notified of any changes, you will stay informed of any announcements as they are added.
Homework Policy
Homework is designed to accomplish two things in first grade:
1. It should help the child learn organizational skills and study habits appropriate for their level.
2. It should reinforce academic skills and/or allow extra time on assignments not completed in class due to various circumstances (illness, Dr. appointment, etc.).
Your child will receive a homework binder that will contain any unfinished or review work to be returned the next day. It will also contain a communication chart. If there are any notes that I need to send home that reference behavior, special communication, or other information that happens not to be included in the monthly brown envelope or website, they will be found in this folder. Please check this folder daily.
If you would like to send a quick note to me, you may do so by e-mail from this site or respond on this chart. I would ask that any serious concerns be addressed during a scheduled conference time. I will send home a schedule that will show my available conference times.
During your child's first week, they will bring home(in their homeowork binder) a list of procedures that we have learned. You will also receive a questionaire that is designed to assist me in getting to know your child. Please fill this out and send it back by the end of the first week of school.
After the first week of school, please review any work that is sent home with your child, as well as their behavior sheet. This is a great way to stay informed of the daily activities of your child and it also helps generate conversation about information your child has learned.
Thank you for entrusting your child's first year to me, and for allowing me to serve Christ by serving in this ministry.
