6th grade Girls Physical Education
1st period
The 6th grade girls will be starting a new unit on Monday March 3, we will be covering the basic fundamentals, rules, vocabulary and scoring of softball. They are permited to bring their own gloves if they choose to. We have a few gloves but not near enough for everyone to have one. Those students who have no prior knowledge of softball will be starting out using a "softie" which is the same size as a softball but you can squeeze it, hopefully this will prevent any injury. This unit will last 4 weeks and then we will move on to our last unit of the semester which will be what I call "Little Cougar Relays". The girls will learn the different running and field events that take place at a track meet. They will all get the chance to try each event so that they have a feel for what track season will be like for them next year. The "Little Cougar Relays" will also last for 4 weeks. Both of these units will require the girls to be outside and active therefore they need to be prepared with sweat bottoms and tops, windpants, ear warmers etc. to stay warm during the morning hours. The last few weeks of the semester we will be focusing on the FITNESSGRAM testing.
FITNESSGRAM TESTING will be starting as soon as we get our equipment from Austin. I will be sending out a parent newsletter to let everyone know how the testing will be done.
Coach Wells Confrence Times-12:16-1:09 and 2-2:45.
7th & 8th grade Athletics-
The girls just finished up with their basketball season and we are starting to get geared up for TRACK!! The girls will have regular track running workouts during the class period each day. The girls will stay after school to practice on any field events they participate in and on any handoffs for relays. Coach Nunn will be coaching the Junior High Track Girls. I will be taking the offseason girls that do not wish to participate in Track. They will be required to run the same workout the track girls run during the period. The offseason girls WILL NOT stay after school. I will be taking any girls who play softball to the field on Fridays to work on basic fundamental softball skills to help perpare them for high school Softball. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at the school 254-583-7962 or email me at kwells@rosebudlottisd.org.
High School PE-
We are currently working on aerobic capcity by engaging in several different types of workouts. The girls are power walking between 1-3 miles, they are doing a Taebo circuit training which involves upper body, lower body and Ab workouts, as well as an aerobic dance workout which not only allows them to get their heart rate up but also teaches them the life time skill of dance. All of these girls will also be required to participate in the FITNESSGRAM testing. We will be sending out a parent newsletter to let you know when and how all of this testing will be done. You will also recieve a report of your childs physical fitness level based on the FITNESSGRAM testing results. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at the school 254-583-7962 or email me at kwells@rosebudlottisd.org.
High School Athletics--
Softball practice will be held from 4-6 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and from 3-5 on Tuesdays and Fridays. All of the girls have been given a practice calender that goes through the end of February as well as a game schedule. If the girls need extras there are some extras placed on the training table outside the girls coaches office in the new gym, there is also a copy of the game schedule and practice calender on the bulletin board outside of the girls locker room. We have also put a game schedule on the Rosebud Lott website. We will no longer be having a Junior Varsity softball team due to injuries and some athletes deciding not to play. Hopefully next year we will have a Junior Varsity and Varsity team. I am encouraging any student-athletes 8th grade and below to get involved with the local little league this summer to get some playing expierence and all around fundamental exposure. I will be trying to make as many little league games in Rosebud and Westphalia as I possibly can.
The softball girls had their fist scrimmage of the season aginst Rockdale on Feb. 5th. Several of the girls were forced to play in positions they wouldn't normally have played in due to the girls still playing basketball however, they did a great job!! I was very impressed and excited. We did not keep an official book as it was a scrimmage but we ended the 7th inning tied 4-4. Our next game was scheduled for Feb. 12th however we canceled because the Varsity Girls Basketball Team is having their first round playoff game on the same night. The next scheduled game is Friday, Feb. 15th in Clifton depending on the outcome of the basketball game on the 12th.
The girls are now 3-0 on the season by defeating Clifton, Mart and Milano.
The girls will be in the Reicher Tournament Feb. 28,29, and March 1st.
The girls will also be in the Lexington Tournament March 6th and 8th.
Our first District game will be on March 3rd at 6pm against Jarrell.
Game scores and highlits are being called into the Waco Trib, the Temple Daily Telegram and the Rosebud News.
