Welcome to The Art Department!
I’m excited to begin the new school year. This year, we will be building on the skills of previous years. New artists will be introduced as well as art from various parts of the world. This year Target is sponsoring free admission to the Museum of Fine Arts Houston on the first Sunday of each month. I encourage you to take your family to the museum.
This year I spoke to the students about my expectations and procedures of the art class. We can all have a five star art day by doing the following:
- Treat everyone the way you want to be treated.
- Listen and follow Mrs. Cowan’s instructions.
- Clean up your area.
- Remember the only thing “wrong” is nothing at all.
- Have your behavior reflect the PYP attitudes
If a student is having a problem with one of these expectations he will be given a warning. If the behavior continues the student will be placed in a time out. A conduct mark will go in my grade book as well as the teacher’s clip board. For a serious situation, I will send the student to Ms. Gee and contact the parent. I do not expect to have many serious behavior issues so my focus can be on art instruction.
The primary grades will begin the year studying the art element, line. Grades 3, 4, and five will be working on portfolio covers. Each grade level designs the cover using their name. All of the students work will be kept in their portfolios so they can see growth in their artistic abilities.
