                    MUSIC NOTES

Good morning!

Today is Wednesday, February 13, 2008.

We have a student teacher, Kenneth Peake, from the University of Houston.  It has been fantastic to have him in our music classes.  The children love him and I'm so thrilled to help this young man pursue his dreams!  (Elementary Music Teacher)  He will be with us until February 29th.

Kindergarten and Fifth grades are working on their musical performance skills. They present a musical program on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. called I HAVE A DREAM.

Fourth grade is learning the sounds, sights and names of the symphony orchestra instruments.

Second and Third grades are understanding the terms  STEP, LEAP, SKIP AND SAME to the relationship of DO, RE, MI, SOL, and LA.  This knowledge will help them in thier singing skills, playing the xylophones and writing notes on the music staff.

Second grade is discovering half note and the vocabulary word TONE COLOR.

Third grade is getting better and better at singing songs in a round.

First grade is constucting rhythm to known songs with popcicles sticks.  They have just discovered that some beats sound silent which we call rests. We continue to have fun with singing games.

The last program of this school year will be in May with our first and third grades.

As always, it is a joy to work with your children.

Mrs. Janet Bardin

Today is Tuesday, October 9, 2007.

Second and Fourth Grades are starting to learn the music for our December Program.  The title is "A December To Remember."

We continue to sing Patriotic songs in all classes.  This Is My Country, America, America The Beautiful and soon will we tackle our National Anthem.

Fifth Grade is learning the African American Spiritual called "Dry Bones."  They will study the music by Saint Saens called "Danse Macabre."

Third Grade has discovered the symbol, fermata, which means to hold the note out longer.  They are studying the music staff and have learned about Sol & Mi and how to place it on the staff.

Kindergarten and First Grades are enjoying the musical story, "In The Hall Of The Mountain King".  They are demonstrating with thier voices and bodies the difference between fast and slow.  And we are having a wonderful time with Halloween songs, sounds and games.

We continue in all classes to sharpen our musical skills through singing games.  And we continue to work hard and show kindness!

SING A SONG A DAY AND IT WILL KEEP THE BLUES AWAY!

Mrs. Janet Bardin - Music Teacher

Today is Monday, Septemter 10, 2007.  Welcome to a new school year. We have had a wonderful beginning in music class.

Fourth and Fifth grade classes have enjoyed singing a song from the popular musical called High School Musical. The song is We're All In This Together.  It's been a great song to start out with and to remind the students of the guide lines in music.  The form we are studying is Theme and Variation and the composer is Mozart.

Second and Third grade classes are performing an ostinato with the German song The More We Get Together and moving to the beat on the American Folk song called Jim Along Josie.  They have enjoyed creating verses to the African American Spiritual, I'm Goona Sing.

Kindergarten and First grade classes are performing fingerplays and singing games.  They can not get enough of the game, London Bridge.

ALL GRADES:

OUR MUSIC MOTTO - BE KIND!  WORK HARD!

E - Excellence - Singing intune & following rules
S - Satisfactory
N - Needs Improvement
U - Unsatisfactory

Have a great singing day!

Mrs. Janet Bardin

Today is May 21, 2007.  Last week, Teacher Appreciation Week, was incredible!  Thank you for the gifts, notes, food and flowers.  I really felt appreciated!  Thank you!  My first year at Mark Twain has been wonderful.  Happy summer!

Janet Bardin
Kindergarten - We are singing a game that helps us know if the note sounds high or low.  We are learning to follow directions by listening to the music and using a circle and beanbag. Our program in February was wonderful!  I am so proud of the children for having control over their bodies, watching me and singing their best.

First Grade - We now know the word "rest" - meaning a beat in music that is silent.  In February we studied the music to the story of "Peter and the Wolf"  by Prokofiev.  And now we are working on different singing games to be presented on a program in May!  Yes, the first and third graders will perform on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.

Second Grade - The children have learned the music word called, "ostinato"  (a short pattern that repeats)
They clapped an ostinato and played an ostinato on the xylophones while singing the song Row, Row, Row Your Boat.  They also studied the music of composer Prokofiev in the story "Peter and the Wolf". And we are beginning to talk about the music staff.

Third Grade - They now know the whole note and whole rest.  They understand the term "octive" and have located it in the song, "This is my Country". The children have studied the music called, "Carnival of the Animals" by Camille Saint-Saens. And now we are preparing for our program in May.  Yes, the first and third graders will present a program on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.

Fourth Grade - Our orchestra unit was a huge success!
Most students recieved an "E" on their tests.  We finished the unit by playing a human tic tac toe game using the facts we learned about the instruments.  Now we are concentrating on being a good Texan by learning the state song, "Texas Our Texas".

Fifth Grade - Wow!  What an awesome musical, "We Haz Jazz!"  I am so proud of the students!  Let me say thank you to the parents for making sure your child had the correct clothes and arrived on time for the program.  To continue our study on Jazz music we have learned to improvise a question and answer on the xylophones using a pentitonic scale.  We are memorizing the absolute pitch names on the music staff so we can write our own song on staff paper.

I CAN'T WAIT TO EXPERIENCE MY FIRST "BASH" AT MARK TWAIN!  KEEP SINGING!

FROM,

MRS. JANET BARDIN
