I wanted to congratulate our class on their fabulous music performance this week! They did a fantastic job and displayed such musicianship - great job, guys! A special recognition is in order for our very own Hannah Chambers, who performed an impromptu xylophone solo and wowed the crowd with her bravery. We're proud of you, Hannah! Thanks, parents, for your support of our wonderful music program.
Thanks also for making teacher appreciation week so special for me. I really appreciate all the thoughtful flowers, cards, and gifts. You guys are great!
We've got a lot of fun in store for our final days of school. Tomorrow (Friday the 16th) is Field Day. 3rd grade activities will begin at 12:00 and end at 3:00. Parents are welcome to attend and cheer on our team - Hoppin's Hooligans! A million thanks to Fiona Dunnett for her help tie-dying our team t-shirts. It takes guts to face a vat of purple dye and 23 eager 3rd graders!
Next week the third grade teachers will host "Camp Read and Write." It will be a normal school week as far as scheduling and instruction goes, but instead of doing work at our desks we will be working in sleeping bags and tents! Children should bring a pillow and a flashlight. If your child has a sleeping bag, bring that also. You can bring camp items to school Monday and take them home Friday. Please, please, please be sure to label all the items with your child's name! I also need a four or five volunteers to medium-sized tents that we can set up in the classroom Friday afternoon so everything will be ready for camp on Monday. Let me know if you are able to bring a tent and/or if you are willing to help set everything up Friday after school.
Awards day for third graders is scheduled for the last day of school. I hope you all can make it! Our class party will be during the last week of school - either Tuesday or Wednesday. Email Fiona Dunnett if you are interested in helping out with that. More details to come later.
It's a crazy time of year and there's so much going on, so just to recap, here are some important upcoming dates to remember:
Thursday 29th - 3rd grade awards 8:30
Early Dismissal 12:30
Free Dress Day
Last Day of School!
***No Extended Day after May 22nd!!***
Thanks so much for all your help and support this year - I couldn't have done it without you! I have had such a wonderful experience here at Twain and am so happy to be part of such a wonderful school. I have loved teaching your children this year and getting to know each and every one of them - they will be missed!

Dear Parents,
Thanks so much for attending student-led conferences! The children really loved sharing their work and thoughts with you. If you couldn't make it to the conference but you would still like to go over your child's portfolio with him or her, please let me know and we can schedule another time after school to make this happen.
The math TAKS test will be next Tuesday, April 29th. We have been preparing for the test in class and I know the students will do a great job! Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep on Monday and a healthy breakfast Tuesday morning. There will be no tutorials next week due to testing.
We have begun our last planner, Habitats Around the World. The central idea is that living things and their habitats are interconnected. The children are inquiring into characteristics of different habitats around the world, people's lives in different habitats, and the protection and destruction of the world's habitats.
Each third grade class has highlighted one habitat to study. Our class researched coral reefs and the plants and animals that live there. Our research and artwork is in the hallway... come take a look! The children have worked very hard and had a great time putting it together. It's wonderful to see them so engaged and interested in research! After you check that out, make sure to take a walk down the third grade hallway with your child and read about other habitats.
We will begin our last cycle of LDC on Monday. We will be reading Poppy by Avi.
Field day is coming up on May 16th. We still haven't voted on a team name, although "Hoppin's Hooligans" has been suggested, which sounds about right. :) We'll vote on our class name next week, along with our t-shirt color (purple or multi-color) and pass that information along so that we can get started on t-shirts.
Thanks also for all the donations of pencils and tissues - they are very much appreciated and are being put to immediate use!
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns for me. I have loved teaching your children this year and can't believe how quickly the end of the year is approaching!
