October 2
Reminder: Our Class party is today at 5:45-7:00 by the playground.  Hope to see you there!
Thank you to everyone who donated items for the class auction.  The kids are going to love it!
Our grade level needs copies of the chapter book The Beloved Dearly by Doug Cooney.  It goes with our Economics planner that starts next week.  Donations of this book would be greatly apprieciated!

IB Planner: Water World
Central Idea: Water is an inexhaustible resource that sustains our planet and all living things.
Lines of Inquiry
  • the effects of water on our environment
  • how living things depend on water
  • water use and distribution around the world
This week we are learning about the water cycle. We read the book A Drop Around the World and today the students were water droplets in a water cycle simulation. Ask your child what happened to them on their journey!
Last week we discussed the world's water supply. 97% of water is found in the oceans, 2% of water is frozen in glaciers, and less than 1% is available fresh water. We need to conserve our drinking water because it can easily become scarce! Come by the classroom and check out our ocean mural. The students did such a great job researching and were so creative making the mural!

Math: Use place value to compare and order numbers through 9,999. Identify number patterns on a grid and use them to find differences between numbers. Review calculator skills, adding and subtracting and skip counting forward and backward.

Reading: Practice fluency and comprehension. The students received their book club assignments today. The student got to choose what book they wanted to read. They will have reading assignments due on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Their assignments are in their red reading folder along with the job descriptions.

Spelling: vowel-consonant-e pattern
States: California CA and Nevada NV
