Dear Boys and Girls,
What a wonderful and amazing week! Georgie Kearse Rawson was born on Monday, February 18th at 2:30. She is so cute. We came home from the hospital on Wednesday and now we are getting used to being at home. Right now she is sleeping a lot.
I miss you all so very much. I know you are trying your best for Mrs. Nathan, Mrs. Gee and the other teachers. This is the last week before the TAKS writing test (The TAKS writing test is March 5th). I know you have all been working very hard to improve your writing skills. As you work this week, please think of the following:
• Focus – does your story answer the prompt or do you try to tell too much? Stretch your small moments so that you story is interesting.
• Voice – Do you include thoughts and feelings? Key words: thought, wonder, think, imagine, reminds me of, and makes me think of…
• Show not tell – use freeze frame and slow motion to make your story more interesting. Show feelings and emotions. Don’t tell you are happy, show it! How does happy look? What do you think and say?
• Conventions – Do you check your work for editing errors? Did you revise your story as necessary?
You are all good writers. I am proud of you! Just remember… You will do great!
I hope your science fair projects are well underway. Please check the calendar in your Science Fair Booklet. If you need another book, please bring Ms. Nieto one dollar and she will give you another one. If you have any questions, I will be happy to help you. Please send me an email and I can call you or email you back. You can also ask Mrs. Daniels. She may have words of wisdom that will help guide you in the right direction.
