Thursday, May 1st is Book Fair 5:30-8:30 @ Barnes and Noble on Holcombe.

Thursday, May 8th is our Field Trip to Main Street Theater- we will be leaving around 11:45 and returning by 2:30.

We have scheduled our 2nd grade Awards Day/Student Led Conferences for Wednesday, May 21st at 2pm.

Last but not least our end of the year party will  be Wednesday, May 28th.  We are planning on having ice cream sundaes and outdoor activities.  If you would like to help please let Kristina Brosig or myself know.  Thanks so much!

We have begun our new planner- Wacky Weather.  Our Central Idea is extreme weather affects living things and geography.  Our inquiry points will be types of extreme weather, causes of extreme weather, effects of extreme weather and tools for predicting weather. We will be meeting in small groups for research on a topic that interests them the most (regarding weather.)

In Reading Workshop we are meeting in small groups and still working on reading comprehension and making connections as we read.   The students have choices in choosing their books for many activities based on both interest and ability level.  Continue to read at home this summer and check your local library for recommended book lists or simply choose books of interest to keep your child happy about reading!

In Writing Workshop we will continue working on descriptive narratives, realistic fiction, and letters to our penpals.  We have been doing some oral storytelling and group story writing which is helping us with our flow in writing. We are continually working on making it exciting for the reader.  This summer plan on keeping a journal and finding a friend or relative to write letters and postcards to practice writing skills.

Math
We are working on Unit 10 which is Money.  We are adding totals, making change, remembering to use decimal points, estimating and finding exact costs, place value and place value notation for ten thousands.

Library is on TUESDAY next week.  Please remember to return your books.  Thanks!!

Starfall is an excellent sight for reading, spelling and phonics.
