Monday, May 12 at 1:30 our class will present our folk tale plays to parents in the school cafeteria. Our class Award Ceremony will take place immediately following the end of the plays. Please plan to attend your child’s play and award ceremony. Don’t forget your camera!
It's carnival time! This Friday, May 9 is the Roberts School Carnival. Our class still needs volunteers to help at our booth. We have a volunteer sign-up sheet outside of our classroom door. Your child must be supervised during the carnival. If your child will be attending the carnival beginning at 3:00, please tell the adult providing supervision to be at our classroom door by 2:50. If there is no adult at our classroom door, your child will be required to wait at the dismissal area. We are not allowed to send the first graders to the carnival unattended.
Tuesday, May 13, is our last library day. All library books must be returned on or before Friday, May 16.
Wednesday, May 21, the first graders will participate in student-led conferences. Each child will share his/her portfolio with a parent. (The teachers will not be involved in the discussions.) Please be waiting by our classroom at 9:15 on May 21st in order to share this experience with your child. Due to our ancillary schedule, all student-led conferences must be completed by 9:45.
In the classroom:
IB planner:It's a Small World; The theme: How We Express Ourselves; The central idea: Humans express themselves and their ideas through folklore
In math, we are reviewing the skills that we have learned this year with different enrichment actvities.
In writing, we are studying what we notice in poetry. We are starting to write our own poetry!
In reading, we are working on comprehension skills. We are discussing and reflecting on what we are reading in various engaging formats. We are also doing some reader's theater the classroom to practice reading with inflection and emotion. This is preparing us for our upcoming folk tale performances.
Please remember that school starts at 8:05. The first bell rings at 7:55 and the tardy bell rings at 8:05. Please make sure your child is in the door and in their seat by 8:05. This allows them to settle in and to get ready for their day. Thank you so much for your cooperation!
Have a great week!
