Reader's Workshop- In reading this week, we are applying the skills we have been working on all year to concrete written responses. Over the next couple of weeks the kids will be writing a response at the end of every reading workshop. The jobs are:
summarizer (writing a 3-4 sentence summary of the book or chapter)
word wizard (choosing words that are new, interesting, or hard)
envisioner (making a picture in their mind of a certain scene)
passage picker (choosing beautiful language or an interesting part)
connector (making connections to their life or another text)
discussion director (thinking of questions to ask about the text)
Math- We are in Unit 6 which includes adding 3 digit numbers, solving and comparing number stories (word problems), reading graphs, money with bill and coin exchanges, combining equal groups to find totals, arrays with multiplication ex 2 four times, drawing and measuring line segments, and division stories- solving problems with equal sharing and grouping. We will continue to review double digit addition and subtraction, patterns, counting backwards by tens, fact families, telling time and counting money. Reinforce these activities at home for continued success!
Science/SS- We have begun our new planner- Wacky Weather. Our Central Idea is extreme weather affects living things and geography. Our inquiry points will be types of extreme weather, causes of extreme weather, effects of extreme weather and tools for predicting weather. We will be meeting in small groups for research on a topic that interests them the most (regarding weather.)
Remember to read every night. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
