1. Our class will present Aesop’s Fables plays to parents on FRIDAY, MAY 15 at 1:30 P.M. in the school cafeteria.Our class Award Ceremony will take place immediately following the end of the plays.Please plan to attend your child’s play and award ceremony.Don’t forget your camera!
2.Please send your child’s animal costume to school on May 5th.Again, the costume’s head component or mask should not conceal the identity of your child.
3.Our class still needs volunteers to help at the Friday, May 8, School Carnival.We will operate the Cascarones Booth. (Cascarones are eggshells filled with confetti paper.)
Your child’s Tuesday Communication Folder included a letter from me, about the carnival, that asked for volunteers.We still need two more volunteers from 3:30 - 4:30 and three volunteers from 5:30 - 6:30!If you receive another form, please circle which time period(s) you prefer to assist, and return the letter immediately.
After I have received all of the parent responses, I will send a volunteer schedule.Your time is an important contribution to our school.Thank you for your assistance!
4.Your child must be supervised during attendance at the May 8th School Carnival.If your child will be attending the carnival beginning at 3:00, please tell the adult providing supervision to be at our classroom door by 2:50.If there is no adult at our classroom door, your child will be required to wait at the dismissal area.I am not permitted to send first graders out to the carnival unattended.
5.The last day to submit a Scholastic Book Order will be Friday, May 1st. This will be the last Book Order of the school year.
6. All library books must be returned on or before Friday, May 15.
7. All Book Trade books must be returned to school on or before Friday, May 15.
8.During the week of May 11- May 15, first graders will participate in student-led conferences.Each child will share his/her portfolio with a parent.(The teachers will not be involved in the discussions.) Please look at your child’s Tuesday folder to find more information about the school procedures for these conferences.
9.Our class will have an end-of-the-year party at 1:30 on Wednesday, May 27.I will send a letter requesting specific food contributions in a few weeks.Please send the requested food contribution to school on Tuesday, May 26.
10. Thursday, May 28 is a 12:00 dismissal day.
11.I would like to extend special thanks to Mrs. Yi Zhang (Howard Cai’s mom) and Mrs. Linda Liu (Emily Peng’s mom) for chaperoning field trips, organizing Tuesday Folder papers every week, leading our class’ school garden effort, and/or helping with student activities that required additional adults. I know that your children also greatly appreciate their contributions to our classroom.
12.Enrichment summer school is not available for HISD first graders from Roberts Elementary.Only first graders that HISD qualifies for remedial summer school will be permitted or required to attend.Remedial summer school is usually limited to the month of June.If your child is required or requested to attend remedial summer school, our school office will notify you in writing.
13.To avoid academic regression during the summer, make sure your child reads to you 20 minutes or more every day.In second grade, your child will be expected to memorize all addition and subtraction facts through sum 20, for faster response time.The fact triangles you have received will be helpful for summer math practice.Additionally, I recommend that you have your child write in a journal at least 15 minutes every day.

2.Our Classroom Rules: Use good manners. Raise your hand. Speak softly. Follow directions. Be kind.
Students are required to follow these classroom rules, as well as those rules established by the school and school district. Please review appropriate school behaviors with your child.
Consequences for inappropriate behavior may include a warning, time out from recess, removal from an activity, a note to parents, a call to parents, a conference with parents, a formal disciplinary report to the principal, a conference with the school principal, and/or other penalties consistent with the HISD Code of Conduct.
3.Homework: Specific homework assignments are sent home on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This homework should take 10 to 20 minutes. Additionally, your child should read to an adult at least 20 minutes every day.
4.Please be sure your child brings a healthy snack each day. Your child may not eat cookies, cupcakes, pastries, candy, or chips during snacktime. Your child's daily education will be facilitated by sending a small bag of fruit, vegetables, a fortified cereal bar or some crackers for snacktime.
