1.) Textbooks are being issued. Any student who does not have a book by Wednesday 9/14/11 should tell Mr. Hartman as soon as possible.The book should be left at home for reading assignments, help with homework, and studying for tests. Please be aware that the book costs $54.50. Students will have to pay for the book if they lose it.
2.) All students must have a composition book for labs and a folder for class work. These were due M/T 8/29-30/10.
3.) Grades for the first six weeks will close Wednesday 9/28/11. All work including makeup work must be handed in by that time. Makeup days will be Wednesdays beginning at 7:45 in room S-3. AIP will be during the school days at lunch. AIP will be automatically assigned for missing work in the Fall semester.
4.) All test retakes/makeup must be done Wednesday mornings at makeup. Only students who have prepared a 4" X 6" notecard in advance will be eligible to retake a test.
5.) All late work will be accepted only after the students attends AIP and turns in the missing work to Mr.Cowan.
6.) Read Chapter 1 Chemical Interactions pp. 22-65 in the textbook and turn in 3 pages of notes in outline form (which Mr. Hartman will demonstrate in class) on M/T 9/26-27/11. This date is one week later than originally announced.
7.) 'Using the Periodic Table due M/T 9/26-27/11. Students received these packets in class M/T 9/19-20/11.
8.) Test on atoms Th/F 9/22-23/11. Students should study the textbook pp. 24-28 Section 1 'Inside an Atom", all graded assignments, and the lab 'Bohr Models'. Students may make a 4 X 6 " notecard with any information on atoms and their structure and properties to use on the test.
9.) Test on the periodic table, properties of elements, and chemical reactions Th/F 10/11-12/11. Students should study the textbook pp. 29-64, all graded assignments, and the labs 'Friends or Relatives Part I', 'Friends or Relatives Part II', and 'Organizing the Periodic Table'. Students may make a 4 X 6 " notecard with any information on elements, the periodic table, and chemical reactions to use on the test.
10.) The STAAR Science 8 field test will occur in late April. The Stanford 10 test in science will occur during the second week of May.
