Just in case you have not heard there will be three ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camps in the greater Houston area for students entering grades 6, 7, and 8 in the fall of 2007. These two-week residential academic camps focus on STEM education. Two will be held at the University of Houston (June 10 - 22 and July 8 - 20) and one will be held at Prairie View A&M (June 3 - 15). For more information go to the website http://www.theharrisfoundation.org. The registration deadline for the UH camps is April 20. The deadline date for the PV camp is April 30.

7th Grade Science Teacher
We want to make this a successful year for your child. Seventh grade is a special year and we will be working through out the year to prepare your child for lifelong learning and interest in science. Through frequent contact we will keep you informed of your child’s academic and behavioral progress.
Our goal is to encourage active learning experiences to help your child become scientifically literate citizens of the future.
This course is focused on inquiry/discovery based instruction using scientific methods and principles that teach your children about the world they experience. Instruction will promote students as critical thinkers and participants in the learning process. Students are encouraged to become independent thinkers and to assume responsibility for their own learning.

Projects
Students will complete a science fair project. Aproject is assigned every nine week grading cycle. Students will sign a form stating that they received the information and the due date of the project.
Classroom procedures
Students are given three passes for rest room, locker or nurse for each semester. Please send a note if your student has special restroom or other needs.
After School Intervention Program (AIP)
Students are assigned AIP for missing class work. The assignment score will be reduced for delayed submission. If extenuating circumstances exist please send a note or an email.
Textbooks
Each student will be assigned a science textbook. The textbook cost is $54.50. Students will use the textbook for background information and to complete workbook assignments.

Absences and Makeup work
A student that is absent will have two school days to complete missing assignments.
Missing Assignments
If a student does not turn in an assignment on the due date, he/she will have one additional class period to turn in the assignment with a 20 point penalty. AIP may be assigned in an attempt to have the assignment completed.
Supplies
Supplies will be kept in class. Your child will need a folder with three dividers, composition book, notebook paper, color pencils, package of pencils, package of blue or black pens, red or green pens (2), facial tissue (Kleenex). For a class donation students can bring paper towels, hand sanitizer, construction paper, printer paper, or Ziploc bags. These items are greatly appreciated.
