UNITS OF STUDY:
August to September
1  In this unit students compare and order real numbers. They will use the knowledge from the comparisons to establish relationships between fraction, decimals, and percentages for equivalences and order on a number line. Students also will order and compare integers on the number line.

September to October
2  In this unit students are introduced to multiplication and division of fractions and decimal numbers using concrete models, pictures, words, and numbers. They connect the concrete representations to the use of the algorithm and solve application problems involving multiplication and division as well as addition and subtraction.

October and November
Unit 3.
            Ratio and Proportions
In this unit, students write and solve proportions using unit rate and factor of change strategies. They solve problems involving graphical representations, scale drawings, similar figures, and geometric relationships.

November and December
Unit 4 Integer Operations

In this unit, students will model and solve problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of positive and negative integers and develop an understanding of the algorithms involved.

January
Unit 5 Equations

In this unit, students will model and solve one- and two-step equations.

January
Unit 6  Percent and Proportion

In this unit, students develop the concept of part to whole relationships in finding the percent of a given number, the whole given the part, and the part given the whole using proportional statements and estimation.

February
7. Variables and Relations

In this unit, students will be introduced to the use of variables in patterns, sequences, tables, and graphing.

February/March
  8. Geometry and Measurement  11  In this unit, students will be classifying angles, angle relationships, and two- and three-dimensional shapes. They will create nets and sketch solids given various views. They will solve problems involving measurement relationships such as perimeter, area, circumference, and volume.

All Year with a focus in April and May
9.  Data Collection and Sample Spaces

In this unit, students will select and use appropriate representations for presenting data and justify the selection. They will describe and use measures of central tendency including mean, median, mode, and range.

Homework

Late or Missing Work
Work must be taken seriously and turned in on time.
Any work that is late will be marked down 15 points and must be turned in by the following class period. The grade will drop the later the assignment is turned in to me.
A student may come to tutoring after school on Wednesday to make up an assignment.
If a student is absent they have one extra class meeting to turn in their work with no penalty.  Missing work must be picked up during mentor period.
Work that is not turned in will be averaged as a zero.

Tutorials
Students can bring up any grade by bringing the assignment to tutorials and with further instruction prove a better understanding of the objectives.

Grading:
Classwork and quizzes (70%)
Projects and tests (20%)
Homework (8%)
Folder (2%)

Expectations/Rules
1. Be on time - this means that you need to be in your seat working on your Do Now when the tardy bell rings.  If you are late you will be assigned a lunch detention.  This takes place the first ten minutes of class.
2. Be prepared - have all of your supplies ready and your homework complete and on your desk.
3. Be respectful - to things, self, and others in the room.
