SchoolNotes.com - Linking Educators to the Community
Dear Parents,

The arts encourage students to think and learn in a variety of ways and to use language and logic skills.
This year the students will be part of an exciting visual art education program.  Students in this art class will:
    * explore the great art, artists, and cultures of the world.
    * develop skills to understand and appreciate artwork.
    * develop critical thinking skill s by studying their own and others’ artwork.

More and more, the arts are playing a vital role in education and learning.  Unlike many other subject areas, the arts introduce students to ways of thinking that are based on imagination and judgment.

One of the most exciting aspects of art education for students is creating their own artwork.  The students have many exciting activities to look forward to this year.

This year your child will begin to see the world through an artist’s eyes and develop critical thinking skills that will last a lifetime.

You can help your child practice art concepts at home with the following activities.

    * Share and discuss family mementos with  your child.  What kinds of lines,
       Shapes, and colors are there?
    * Pay special attention to the illustrations in books that you read with your child
How do the illustrations contribute meaning to the story?  Do the illustrations
Give information that is not in the text?

I look forward to a great year teaching your child in art this year.
