7TH AND 8TH GRADE ART
NOV. 2 - 6, 2009
***Students who did not complete their Sand Art project need to come in either Tues. Wed. or Thurs. after school.  The end of the six weeks is Friday.

Mon. Nov. 2
Students will receive a Vocabulary pre-test to complete with the aid of a note sheet I typed for them.
- We'll correct the pre-test in class and students will use it as a study guide for Wed. Vocabulary test.

Tues. Nov.3
- Review for Wed. Vocab. test.
Intro. to 2pt. and 3pt. perspective
- Students will draw as I model on the overhead. This will be a graded practice.  Students will use 2 vanishing pts. to draw geometric shapes above, at,and below eye level.  They will also draw a pyramid and cylinder and hollow out shapes.

Wed. Nov. 4
Vocabulary test
- those who finish can work on the sketch book assignment that will be graded on Thursday.

Thurs. Nov. 5
Sketch Book Day #4
The last sketch for the 6 weeks will be graded.

Fri. Nov.6
Continue with the practice of 2pt. perspective of geometric shapes.

6TH GRADE ART
MON. NOV.2
Review for the sculpture retest that will be taken on Tuesday.
Sketch Book Day #3
- a sketch from the list of assignments will be graded.

Tues. Nov. 3
Sculpture retest.  Students will then work on the new list of assignments for next six weeks.

Wed.-Fri., Nov. 4-6
Students will complete their wire action figures.  Props will be added and figures will be mounted on a platform.

Monday - Wednesday, Oct. 26-28, 2009
Students will work on and complete their Sand Art project.
- Those who finish before Wednesday, will work on their list of sketches.

THURS. OCT.29
Sketch Book Day #3
- a sketch from the list of assignments will be graded.

FRI. OCT. 30
Vocabulary review
- We'll go over the words we've learned so far and a test will be given next Wednesday, Nov.4

6th grade ART
Monday, Oct. 26
Review for Sculpture test. Test will be Thurs., Oct.29
Students will create the upper body of the wire figure as I model step by step.

Tues., Oct. 27
Review for Sculpture test.  Students will be given a note sheet to take home and study.
Sketch Book Day #2
- a sketch from the list of assignments will be graded.

Wed., Oct. 28
Review for Sculpture test that will be tomorrow.

Thurs., Oct. 29
Sculpture Test
- sketch book time after test until everyone is finished, then we'll continue with the wire figure.

Fri. Oct. 30
Go over test results
- Continue to create and attach the bottom section of the wire figure.



Oct. 13-16, 2009
7TH AND 8TH GRADE ART

** Students will begin Sand Art on Monday, Oct. 19th.  They will need to bring a container of salt and a label free medium size glass jar with a lid.

TUES. OCT. 13
- Review Compositional guidelines
- Go over sketch book expectations
   I'll draw an unacceptable sketch on the board and the students will give suggestions on how to improve it.  After improvements have been added for a full credit sketch, students will identify compositional guidelines used.

WED.-FRI. OCT.14-16
- Students will receive their list of sketch book assignments and will begin working on a sketch.  They will need to have a sketch completed by Friday for grading.  Friday is a sketch book day where one sketch will be graded.  Students will continue to work on their list of assignments.

MON. OCT. 19
- Intro. to Sand Art
  I'll demonstrate how to create Sand Art and show student examples of finished Sand Art designs.

TUES. - FRI. OCT. 20-23
I'll review keys to success in producing a Sand Art project.  Students will then begin to choose a couple colors of chalk and grind over their salt until it becomes the color of choice.  Layers of colors will be placed in the jar and a design will be created using a paint brush.  Students will have time through Friday to complete their Sand Art project.

6TH GRADE ART

TUES. OCT. 13
- We'll review compositional guidelines and identify them in The American Gothic by Grant Wood.  
- Sketch Book Expectations
  I'll draw an unacceptable sketch on the board and students will give suggestions for improvement.

WED. OCT. 14
- We'll review compositional guidelines and then finish the sketch I was modeling on the chalk board.  Students will then identify compositional guidelines.

THURS. OCT.15
- I'll read through the sketch book assignment list.  Students will receive their copy and begin working on one of the assignments.

FRI.OCT. 16
Students will have time to work on their list of sketch book assignments.

Oct. 5 - 9, 2009
7TH AND 8TH GRADE ART
Mon. - Wed., Oct. 5 - 7
Students will finish the castle landscape and have value applied throughout.

Thurs. & Fri., Oct. 8-9
Intro. to Compositional Guidelines
- Students will receive a handout and we will discuss the different guidelines listed and identify them in the castle landscaped that we just finished.
- Students will then identify the compositional guidelines in artwork by famous artists such as Van Gogh, Renoir and Andrew Wyeth.

*** STUDENTS SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR A LABEL FREE GLASS JAR WITH A LID FOR THEIR SAND ART PROJECT THAT WE WILL BEGIN THE LATTER PART OF NEXT WEEK.  THEY WILL ALSO NEED TO BRING IN ONE CONTAINER OF SALT THAT WILL BE COLORED AND USED AS SAND.

6TH GRADE ART
Mon. - Thurs., Oct. 5 - 8
Students will continue to create a cabin landscape and draw as I model.  The landscape will include a horizon, clouds, sun, a tree, pond, cabin, fenced area, bench and road.  Students will learn to use a tortillon to produce value,(shading), throughout the picture.

Fri. Oct. 9
Intro. to compositional guidelines
- Students will be given a handout that explains guidelines to follow in arranging their artwork.
- We'll discuss each guideline and identify the use of them in their cabin landscape.

7TH AND 8TH GRADE ART
MON. SEPT. 28
Students will complete the one pt. perspective of the Hotel Lobby.

TUES.- FRI. SEPT. 29 - OCT. 2
Intro. to castle landscape
- Students will draw as I model on the chalkboard.  They will learn how to use a tortillon for value, (shading) and will draw the castle in 2 pt. perspective.  We will draw a mountain horizon, clouds, a sun, a tree, canyon, bridge, road, plateau with a castle on top and a wrap around pathway leading down the side of the plateau.  Value will be added throughout the drawing.

6TH GRADE ART
MON.- WED. SEPT. 28 - 30.
- Students will continue to draw the room in 1 pt. perspective.  We will finish with a front view table, round table, arcade game, coke machine, fridge, tv and filing cabinet.

THURS. - FRI., OCT. 1 & 2
Intro. to cabin landscape
- Students will draw as I model on the chalk board.  The drawing will include a horizon, clouds, a sun, a tree, a cabin in 1pt. perspective, fence and pond and a road.  


NO SCHOOL MONDAY, SEPT. 21
SEPT. 22 - 25, 2009
7TH AND 8TH GRADE ART
TUES.- FRI.
Students will continue to learn to draw a hotel lobby in one pt. perspective.  Details will include: door, window, ice machine, counter top, small round table, coffee table, chairs, fish aquarium, stairs, area rug, hard wood floors and a sky light.

6TH GRADE ART
TUES. - FRI.
  We spent one extra day on the Organic Design so we are beginning drawing skills on Tuesday.  Students will learn to open up their paper into 3 walls, a ceiling and a floor using a vanishing point.  The drawing will include a door, window, hallway, 3 different table views, a chair, arcade, coke machine, filing cabinet, TV and fridge.  Students will draw as I model on the overhead.
