1. Physics is the study of matter and energy. Some of the topics covered will be measurement, forces, motion, work , power, states of matter, heat, light, electricity, wave motion, atomic structure and nuclear energy.
2. Physics is a laboratory science. You will spend about 40% of class time on laboratory work. You are to follow all safety rules and instructions. Violations of safety rules will result in removal from the lab and the loss of lab participation points(50 pts.)
Your quality participation during lab activities will be evaluated by the teacher and make up 50 points of your lab grade.
3. You will be assigned a lab group each 3 to 6 weeks. You are to stay at your assigned station during the lab activity. Your analysis and lab write up will have a value of 50 points.
4. Much emphasis is placed on problem solving. Students are expected to have a working knowledge of algebra and geometry. You should at least be taking Algebra II.
5. You will need the following materials:
textbook (stored at home)
small binder for notes and storing handouts
scientific calculator ( bring this daily)
Pre AP will need a composition book for
lab notes
6. Late papers will be assessed a 50 point penalty! Work that is turned in messy will be returned to be redone and have 25 points deducted.
7. Six weeks a/verages are calculated as follows:
Tests 50%
Daily grades( homework, quizzes, labs, projects, etc.) 50%
8. Note: Computer homework assignments will not be accepted late. No excuses!
