September 16, 2008
  Homework --
    Math -- Math Box 1-11
    Social Studies -- Test on Friday 9/19.  Bring a
           picture(internet, magazine,book)or drawing
           of something that relates to our subject
           matter for the 1st three weeks -- Earth's
           beginning to ancient civilizations.
    Science -- Make a 3-D cell model, per instruction
           sheet.  Complete both sides of the
           handout.  The questions on the back are
           from the text.

  In Class --
    Math -- Took the Quiz.  Completed a discussion of
            Study Link 1-9.
    Social Studies -- We again attempted to relate key
            terms from the first three weeks of
            classes to develop a better context for
            the terms and the processes we have
            discussed.  
    Science -- Look at three/four types of objects --
            living leaves, dead leaves, algae, dirt or
            aphids.  Described what we saw under the
            microscope and drew a picture of each.

September 17, 2008
  Homework --
    Math --
    Social Studies -- Test on Friday 9/19.  
    Science -- (Make a 3-D cell model, per instruction
           sheet.  Complete both sides of the
           handout.  The questions on the back are
           from the text.  Due Friday.)  Complete any
           unfinished note-taking worksheets or
           unfinished lab paperwork.

  In Class --
    Math -- Reviewed Math Box 1-11, homework.
            Completed Journal page 42 in class, and
            then completed math boxes 1-12 and 1-13.
    Social Studies -- Reviewed the design of Friday's
            test and discussed some of the test
            questions and new information on the
            Topper site in South Carolina.  Hung the
            pictures brought for homework.  
    Science -- Completed a lab experiment
            on "mitochondria", and worked in 2 or 3
            person teams to complete the 'note-taking'
            sheet for Sections 1 & 2 in Chapter 2.

September 18, 2008
  Homework --
    Math --
    Social Studies -- Essay questions for test to be
           done today in class and tonight. Book and
           notes are encouraged! Test on Friday 9/19.  
    Science -- Make a 3-D cell model, per instruction
           sheet. Due Friday.  
  In Class --
    Math -- Completed Study Links 1-10, 1-11, 1-12.
    Social Studies -- Reviewed how to answer essay
           questions for homework tonight.  
    Science -- Checked the answers on the notetaking
           sheets and the mitochondria lab.  Worked on
           naming parts of the cells.

September 22, 2008 (My apologies for being late -- I know myself and know it won't be the last time I have to say so)

    Math -- Study for test on Tuesday
    Social Studies -- Complete reading Chapter 6,
            Lesson 1,  Pages 154 - 167.  
    Science -- Finish '5 question' worksheet found on
            back of 'cell model' minilab, or as
            addition to the cell model vocab sheet.  
  In Class --
    Math -- Reviewed all questions and processes to be
            tested on Tuesday.  Gave time for study.
    Social Studies -- Read Chapter 6 as individuals.
           (The students had the choice to read Social
            Studies, study for the math test or work
            on their science binder.)  
    Science -- Completed three of four pages on the
            content mastery worksheet, as a class,
            and  the students completed the fourth
            page as individuals.

September 23, 2008  
  Homework --
    Math --
    Social Studies -- Search out the correct responses
            to the questions on the Review sheets for
            Chapter 6, lessons 1 & 2.  
    Science --  

  In Class --
    Math -- Took a math test.  Self corrected the test.
    Social Studies -- Began the discussion of
            MesoAmerica -- Ch 6.
    Science -- Students completed the Reinforcement
            worksheets and worked on their binders.

September 24, 2008  
  Homework --
    Math -- Math Box 2-1
    Social Studies --  
    Science -- Essay questions for Chapter two test.
            Due Friday.  May use book and notes.

  In Class --
    Math -- Worked out pages 45 and 46 in the Math
            Journal while integrating speed of light,
            light years, kilometer-to-mile
            conversions, etc.
    Social Studies -- Reviewed the home work sheets
            that covered Lessons 1 & 2 of Chapter 6.
    Science -- Students corrected the Reinforcement
            worksheets, completed and corrected the
            Chapter Review and worked on their binders.

September 25, 2008  
  Homework --
    Math -- Math Box 2-2
    Social Studies --  
    Science -- Essay questions for Chapter two test.
            Due Friday.  May use book and notes. Study
            for multiple choice section on Friday.

  In Class --
    Math -- Worked out pages 47 -49 in the Math
            Journal.
    Social Studies --
    Science --
    Other -- Participated in two activities at the
            Arvada Center.

    Social Studies -- May work on the two parts of the
            test redo. Due Wednesday.

    Social Studies -- Some work on the test redo.
    Science --
    Other -- Art with circles and triangles, using
           compasses and rulers and trying to create
           like the artists we saw yesterday at the
           Arvada Center.

    Social Studies -- May work on the two parts of the
            test redo. Due Wednesday.
    Science -- Read pages 58 - 65 in Chapter 3.

  In Class --
    Math -- Completed pages 52, 53, and 55 in journal.
    Social Studies -- Reviewed Lesson 1 in Chapter 6
            and focused on map projections.
    Science -- Watched the biology strand from
            the  "100 Greatest Discoveries" series on
            the Discovery Channel.  This re-presented
            some concepts of cells, sell division and
            cell characteristics.
    
September 30, 2008  
  Homework --
    Math -- MB 2-4
    Social Studies -- May work on the two parts of the
            test redo. Due Wednesday.
    Science -- Read pages 67 - 77 in Chapter 3.

  In Class --
    Math -- Read Math Poetry and figured math brain
            teaser problems. Corrected MB 2-3.
            Completed page 56 in journal.
    Social Studies -- Reviewed part of Lesson 2 in
            Chapter 6
    Science -- Discussed section 1 of Chapter 3
            including the use of overheads and a rope
            demonstration for the length of bacteria.
            Constructed the foldable for Chapter 3.

October 1, 2008  
  Homework --
    Math -- MB 2-5
    Social Studies -- Read lesson 3 from Chapter 6.
            Two Extra Credit research items offered to
            students -- regards Mayan mathemetics and
            Aztec buildings.
    Science --

  In Class --
    Math -- Corrected MB 2-4.
            Completed page 59 and 60 in journal.
            Reviewed material from the three preceding
            classes.
    Social Studies -- Reviewed part of Lesson 3 in
            Chapter 6
    Science -- Projected a science lab on the TV -- a
            Virtual lab, and answered questions
            related to the lab.  Returned binder score
            sheets and discussed scoring process.

  October 3, 2008

  In Class --
    Math -- Corrected SL2-1.  Worked on problems
            from a "Math Teaser" booklet -- good for
            multiple step problem solving in word
            problems. Worked on the powers of ten,
            exponential notation and scientific
            notation from the board.
    Social Studies -- Located and colored the three
            mesoamerican ancient civilizations on a
            map    
    Science --
    Field Day in the afternoon.


  October 6, 2008  
  Homework --
    Math -- Math Boxes 2-6 and 2-7
    Social Studies --
    Science -- Reinforcement Sections 1 & 2

  In Class --
    Math -- Worked on problems from a word problem
            booklet -- good for multiple step problem
            solving with equations. Worked on the
            powers of ten, exponential notation and
            scientific notation from the board, and
            using calculators (Reference Book p.285 -
            - new book).
    Social Studies -- Reviewed and corrected the
            worksheet on Lesson 3 (Aztecs) and the
            vocabulary review from Chapter 6.    
    Science -- Students teamed to complete the
            NoteTaking worksheet, then we corrected
            and discussed as a class.

          
October 7, 2008

    Math -- Math Boxes 2-8
    Social Studies --
    Science -- Complete Content Mastery

  In Class --
    Math -- Corrected two Math Boxes and completed a
            redo of SL 2-4.
    Social Studies -- Continued work on a map of
            MesoAmerica.    
    Science -- Reviewed the Reinforcement homework,
            discussed the shapes of bacteria and the
            definitions of key terms, and began
            working on Content Mastery worksheets.

          
October 8, 2008  
  Homework --
    Math -- Math Journal, pages 67, 68, and 69 -- only
            the odd numbered problems
    Social Studies -- Chapter 6 lesson 2 worksheet.
    Science -- Extra credit opportunity.  Determine
           the process for changing leaves on a plant,
           from the start of growth through the change
           of color and the falling from the plant.

  In Class --
    Math -- Corrected Math Box 2-8. Discussed division
           processes on Journal page 66, and the
           preferred use of fractions and decimals, in
           lieu of remainders.
    Social Studies -- Completed lesson 1 worksheet
           from Chap 6.    
    Science -- Reviewed the Content Mastery
           worksheets. Discussed two labs -- one for
           homework extra credit.  

October 9, 2008

    Math --  Study Links 2-7 and 2-8
    Social Studies --
    Science -- Complete the lab activity on "Shapes of
             Bacteria"

In Class --
    Math -- Corrected Math Journal, pages 67, 68 and
           69. Worked as a class on page 72.  Worked
           three Math Count problems that emphasized
           ratios.
    Social Studies -- Corrected lesson 2 worksheet
           from Chap 6.    
    Science -- Reviewed text content through the end
           of Chapter 6.

October 10, 2008

    Math --  
    Social Studies -- Test next Friday, 10/17.
    Science -- Test next Thursday, 10/16

In Class --
    Math -- Corrected Study Links 2-7 and 2-8. Worked
           as a class on page 73. Learned to play, and
           played, "Bizz"
