This site, schoolnotes.com, will help you keep track of assignments and can serve as a reference for you for links to other sites for learning French.

All seniors have been placed on the Senior Fail List.  If you are on the list and are not failing French, I will clear you on June 16th.  Extra graduation tickets are available at the Annex for $5.00,  Grad Nite is at Dave and Busters, and costs $85.

On Monday, June 9th, Nathan Danielson from the Peace Corps in Senegal came to visit us at DHS.  If you took a photo, please send it to me at:  msalvato@dusd.net  We will be sending Nathan books of African American literature, as well as National Geographic and other magazines.

French classes went to the Broad Contemporary Art Museum at LACMA on Thursday, May 29th.  We saw a lot of interesting contemporary art, including works by Andy Warhol, Lichtenstein, and Rauschenberg.  If you are 17 years of age or younger, you can get a NextGen pass for unlimited free admission to the museum by going the the LACMA site and registering.

Chapitre 11 test (scantron) will be Monday, June 16th.
MADE IN FRANCE project given out today - due week of June 9th.
This week we continued to work on the Petits Contes stories.

These are the "Made in France" project requirements:
Choose a product made by a French company and sold in the U.S.  The company that makes the product should have a factory or distribution center in the U.S. as well.  Tell us where the U.S. office is located.  Bring in the actual product and describe it in French.  You must use at least 12 sentences to talk about the product.  Questions to answer include:

1.  Comment s’appelle le produit en français?
2.  Comment s’appelle la société? (company)
3.  C’est quelle modèle?
4.  Combien est-ce qu’il/elle coûte?
5.  C’est disponible en quels couleurs?
6.  Qu’est-ce qu’on peut faire avec ce produit?
7.  Où est-il fait?
8.  Où est le siège principal (main headquarters) pour ce produit en France?
9.  Pourquoi est-ce ce produit populaire?
10. Où est-ce qu’on peut acheter ce produit aux Etats-Unis?
11. Quel est le logo?

After the French portion, you must present further information in English about the company, give a history and anything interesting you’ve found.   Include number of employees, further product lines, subsidiaries, current prices, etc.

French III -
This week we talked about the upcoming visit to the Broad museum and did a related vocabulary list.  Flashcards were due on Tuesday, and the homework assignment, page R-65, ex. 1,2,3 was due on Friday, May 30th.
We continued to read stories from Petits Contes Sympathiques, and went to the computer lab to practice on ch. 11.

French II -
We did the museum art vocab list as Activités on Tuesday.  We took notes on Ch. 11 - page 296 + 297 (listening).
On Friday we went to R-24 to practice ch. 11 and then did Grammar Tutor exercises to practice dormir, partir, and prendre.

French I -
We did the museum lesson as an Activité, and then started on chapitre 6.  Students also turned in the ch. 5 pen pal letter.  On Friday we went to R-24 to write, print, and send our letters to pen pals.  The URL is: http://www.french-penfriends.info

This week we continued to read the stories from "Petits Contes" and answer the questions.  We continued to work on the grammar packet for ch. 11 and correct it.

French II -
On the block day we played French monopoly and scrabble, and then watched French videos.

French I -
This week we did Activités only on Monday, May 12th.  On Tuesday we collected worksheet (10-15), and on the block days (Thursday and Friday) we worked on the homework due Monday, page R-35+36, ex. 1-4 in complete sentences.
We also watched the video "Charade" and then "Paris", and did a Paris questionnaire that we did not yet correct.

French III -
On Monday we passed up last week's "Petits Contes Sympathiques".  We also started on the Ch. 11 grammar packet, and corrected pages 87 + 88.
We did the "sondage" in Ch.11, number 14 on page 277.
On Tuesday we did "Petits Contes Sympathiques" story no. 5 "Un Charlatan" (read and answered questions).  
We started on the worksheet (4-9) pp. 123 + 124, due Thursday.
On Friday we did "Petits Contes" story 6 "Savoir se taire ,,," and finished correcting worksheet (4-9).

French II -
All of the "Activités" for this week were for verb practice, the present tense of partir, sortir, and dormir.
We did ch. 11 notes p. 293, no. 17, 1-4.
On Tuesday we worked on homework assignment p. R-49 + R-50, ex. 1-5.
On the block day we played French monopoly and scrabble.

French I -
On Monday we passed up last week's Activités, and did 4 Activités this week.
On Tuesday we did listening activities for ch. 5, and worked on worksheet (10-15) p. 53+54, which will be due next week.

1)  French III

This week and until the end of the school year we will be reading stories from "Petits Contes Sympathiques" and answering questions, as a warm-up exercises.

On Monday we turned in the homework worksheet, p. 121 + 122, worksheet (1-3) and did textbook exercises from chapitre 11.

2)  French II

Monday we turned in Activités from the week of April 7th.
We started a new sheet of Activités, and started chapitre 11 in the textbook.  We went over the homework that we had done in class together on Friday:  worksheet (35-27) pp. 119 + 120, and turned it in.  

This week we also started the grammar packet from ch. 11, (grey).

3)  French I

On Monday we turned in Activités and started the new ones for this week.  We did textbook exercises from chapitre 5 and partner practice.

Our new verb is "prendre" p. 133 in the textbook.  We wrote the paradigm for this verb and for "avoir" (review) p. 51.

This week we also started the grammar packet from ch. 5.

1)  French III

This week we started on chapitre 11 in the textbook, and on Friday the 25 worked on worksheet(1-3) pp. 121 + 122 which we will go over and turn in on Monday, April 28th.

On the block day we divided into groups and played French Monopoly and French Scrabble.

2)  French II

Monday we finished the "Mise en Pratique" in the textbook chapitre 10.  Next we worked on worksheet (14-18) pp. 115 + 116 which we will turn inon the block day.

On the block day we divided into groups and played French Monopoly and French Scrabble.

Friday we played the dice game with "verbs like choisir" (ch. 10) and then did partner practice with the clothing flashcards.

3)  French I

We will have an Activité on 3 days this week, and pass in last week's on Tuesday the 22nd.

Homework due on Tuesday, April 22nd is worksheet (1-4) pp. 49 + 50.  On the block day and on Friday we did partner practice with chapitre 5, textbook exercises, and corrected the worksheet.

1)  French III

In class on Monday we did partner practice with some of the homework exercises, and started on the homework in deuxième livre:  ex. F, G, and H.  Tuesday we corrected the homework and did I, J, K from the same book.
  
On Wednesday we went to the R-24 computer lab and worked on the go.hrw.com website for our chapter (Allez, viens 2, chapter 10, keyword wao provence) which you can access at home.  We also did 063/064/065 from Grammar Tutor 2.0 to practice object pronouns.  In addition, we returned to the quia.com site to practice object pronouns again.  The website is http://www.quia.com/pages/downeyfranch3.html
also accessible at home.

The homework due Friday is p. 266 from the text, ex. 1-9, phrases completes.

On Friday we corrected the homework and took our 2nd object pronouns test.  We will correct it in class on Monday.

2)  French II

We did 3 "Activités" this week that will be collected on Monday April 14th.  On Monday and Tuesday we worked on our 2 sets of clothing flashcards, due on Friday April 11th.

On the block day we played Jeopardy as a chapter 10 review, and went to R-24 to practice on the textbook site (go.hrw.com) keyword = wao arles.

On Friday we took our chapter 10 scantron test and turned in our clothing flashcards for homework.

3)  French I

We did 4 "Activités" this week which will be collected on Monday.  Monday's assignment (due Tuesday) was p. R-32, exercises 1 and 2.  On Tuesday we corrected the homework and the grammar packet for chapter 4.

On the block day we played pictionary to review for ch. 4, and then went to the computer lab in R-24 to go on the textbook website: go.hrw.com  keyword= wao quebec city
We also re-took the "jouer" and "faire" quizzes.

On Friday, April 11th, we took the chapter 4 scantron test.

On Monday we corrected the homework turned in on Friday, and then took a quiz on object pronouns.

Tuesday we corrected the quiz in class, then did plage 255, exercises 16 and 18 in the textbook (Allez, viens 2, chapter 10).  On Wednesday we got into groups and wrote group letters to our Peace Corps correspondant, Nathan Danielson in Senegal.  Homework due on Friday is to read pp. 249 and 250 in the yellow "French 2 years" grammar book ("Deuxième livre") and do exercises A, B, D, and E.

On Friday we corrected the homework and finished our letters to Nathan Danielson.

Due after the vacation is exercises F,G, H, I, and K.  

2)  French II

In class this week we did some chapter 10 notes:
no. 21, 23, 24, and 26, and then Listening exercises from the worksheets.

On the block day we got into groups and wrote group letters to our Peace Corps correspondant, Nathan Danielson in Senegal.

Homework due Friday, March 21st:  yellow verb flashcards and chapter 10 vocabulary.

In class this week we worked on our chapter 4 grammar packets and corrected some of it in class.

Bring your yellow flash cards to class every day.  Your yellow flash cards are due Wednesday, March 12th with conjugations in the present tense on the back side.  Make sure you write the entire sentence.
Vocabulaire Ch. 10 is due Friday, March 21st.  Number the words and phrases, and write both the French and the English translation.

3) French I

Because of CAHSEE testing, we will not cover new material on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

Cut out your yellow verb flash cards, and see page 267 in your textbook for conjugations of some verbs.
Pass in the rough draft of your pen pal letter.  Follow the directions on the hand out for the French II pen pal letter.

3) French I

On Monday February 25th pass in the chapter 4 notes you've written thus far.
On Friday, Feb. 29th there is a quiz on the verb jouer. If you are absent for this quiz you must make it up on the day of your return.
Pass in the rough draft of your pen pal letter too.  Follow the directions carefully on what to include in your Ch. 4 pen pal letter.

In French class this week we will be viewing "La Vie en Rose" about the life of French pop singer, Edith Piaf.  We will also see the comedy "Le Valet" and then "Moliere", the story of the 17th century French playwright (the French Shakespeare).

In class this week we continued to take notes and do practice with the passé composé (Chapter 9 in your textbook).  Review your handouts of "Tex's French Grammar" and the "5 uses of the passé composé/imparfait with an addition explanation in Spanish.  For computer practice, go to the Tex's French Grammar and Quia websites (see below).  On Wednesday, January 9th we practiced in the R-24 computer lab.

2)  French II

This week in class we did our Activités warm-up exercises.  Ther purple flashcards (the passé composé) are due on Tuesday January 8th.  We practiced on the Quia website, and with chapter 9 on the textbook website (see below).  You may practice and review your French any time with internet access.  Remember that the DHS and Downey City libraries are available for your use.

In class this week we did Activités and practiced vocabulary from chapter 3 in the textbook.  On block day we practiced on the computers in R-24, using the websites for Quia and for our textbook, chapter 3.  You may access this websites at any time.

In class this week we will continue our review of the passé composé, and then compare its use to that of the imparfait.  When we did our computer practice last week, we found West African recipes on line.  Turn in your recipe for homework credit, then make the food and bring it to class to share on Wednesday, December 19th (also for credit).  Bonnes vacances!

2)  French II

Your passé composé flashcards (purple) are due on Tuesday, December 18th (period 5) and Wednesday, December 19th (period 6).  You must follow the directions given in class on Monday, and write the helper verb (avoir), the past participle, and the remainder of the sentence on the back of each card.

3)  French I

I will be checking your chapter 3 picture flashcards this week.  You must cut them out and write the French definitions on the back of each card.  Make sure to carefully copy the spelling for each word on the back of the flashcard, changing the article for singular (un, une) or plural (des).

We will begin ch. 9 this week.  Make sure you have taken your imparfait quiz and scantron ch. 8 test.  You must also turn in the Ch. 8 grammar packet, Activités, and notes from ch. 8.  Make up any quiz or test missed asap after school.

2)  French II

We will take our scantron ch. 8 test this week, and took the vouloir/pouvoir test last week.  Make these tests up after school asap if you were absent. Turn in your ch. 8 grammar packet, ch. 8 notes, and last week's Activités.  On  block day, bring the pen pal letter that we haven't sent yet.

3)  French I

We have taken our ch. 2 test and quiz - make these up as soon as possible if you were absent.  Also turn in Ch. 2 notes, vocabulary, and the Activités from last week.  You must also turn in your Ch. 2 grammar packet.
On block day, bring the pen pal letter that you haven't sent yet.  Here are the instructions:

Say "hello" to your pen pal and introduce yourself.  Ask your pen pal how he or she is doing.  Tell how old you are and ask your pen pal their age.  Use the Ch. 1 vocabulary.  Ask them about their likes .  Tell your pen pal about your likes and dislikes, and your preferences.  Now ask your pen pal about future or weekend activities "Qu'est-ce que tu vas faire ce week-end?" or "pendant les vacances?" and tell what you do or what you will do "Moi, je ..." or "Je vais ..." Mention 2 or 3 things that you do or will do.  You may use the appropriate parts of your letter to Patrick from page 25 as a guide for writing your pen pal letter.  Add any other information or questions you wish to ask.  At the end of your letter say "good-bye" and write your name.

1)  French III
Turn in your monster as soon as you have completed all the steps. (See instructions from last week.)

Pour le mardi, 2 octobre:  p. R-55 & R-56, ex. 3, 4, et 5.
Write exercises 4 and 5 in complete sentences.

Dialog "Chez le médecin" - you and your partner will write a 15 line dialog, highlighting (or writing with a different color) phrases from the handout or from the ch. 7 vocabulaire.  Prepare to act it out.

Quiz mardi le 9 octobre - present tense of the verb "se nourrir".

2)  French II
Turn in your "Mise en Pratique" (pp. 194 & 195) as soon as you have completed exercises 1-5.

Study your flashcards, and make sure you know the meanings of all the chores (see Ch. 7 vocabulaire, troisieme etape).

Quiz mardi le 9 octobre - French definitions for the chores (see ch. 7 vocabulaire).  Homework due is worksheet ex. 20 - 24.

3)  French I
Finish both sets of flashcards (grey set and white set) by drawing and coloring a corresponding picture and writing the English translation on the back of the card.  The flashcards are due Tuesday, October 2nd.

Turn in your "Mise en Pratique" (pp. 38 & 39) as soon as you have completed all 6 exercises.

"Jean de Florette" - Answer multiple choice questions 1-22, then short answers for 1-6.  We will correct this together in class.

1)  French III
Create your own monster by cutting out body parts from a magazine.  Label at least 10 separate body parts in French.  Use ink (not pencil), do not use red.  Give your monster a name. On a separate sheet of paper, write a descriptive paragraph of your monster, using a minimum of 10 sentences.  (This paragraph must be written in ink and double-spaced.)  
Read your paragraph to a partner;  on a separate piece of paper, your partner will sketch your monster.  Your partner will put his/her name on the drawing.  
Glue your descriptive paragraph to the back of your cut-out monster.  Staple your partner's sketch to your monster, making sure your monster is on top.
Turn your monster in.  Be sure you've written your name on your descriptive paragraph.  

2)  French II
Homework due Friday, September 28th:  pages R-41 and 42, exercises 5, 6, 7, and 8 phrases completes.
"Mise en Pratique" pp. 194 & 195 due in class on Friday.

3)  French I
Homework due on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 26th and 25th:  Grammar and Vocabulary worksheet 7-11.
Due on Friday, September 28th:  Acrostic name tag.  Due in class on Friday:  "Mise en Pratique" pp. 39 & 39, exercises 1 through 6.
