PHYSICAL EDUCATION - FIRST TRIMESTER - FIVE PARAGRAPH ESSAY
“MY THREE FAVORITE NONCOMPETITIVE ACTIVITIES”
Not every child is cut out for the soccer or basketball team. While competitive sports offer a lot for many children, some teens may actually find that their niche exists in the non-competitive arena. Noncompetitive sports are gaining in popularity because they offer kids the chance to learn a new skill in an environment that promotes growth and challenge, more than competition. Your assignment is to choose three activities that are noncompetitive that you already participate in or something you would like to try. We have given you some examples; however, you may choose an activity not on this list. Remember activities like club sports or any type of league are by their very nature competitive and may not be used for this essay.
Paragraph 1: Mention each activity and explain your interest Paragraphs 2-3-4: Discuss each activity in detail Paragraph 5: Conclusion: Which one do think you would like the best?
This essay gives you an opportunity to show how effectively you can develop and express ideas. You should take care to present your ideas logically and clearly. Please give concrete reasons and examples of why you chose each noncompetitive activity. Why do you think the activity could be fun? In your essay be sure to include a variety of sentence types and use transition sentences between paragraphs. Proof read the essay to make sure you have the correct spelling, punctuation, grammar and capitalization. Each paragraph must be a minimum of 5 sentences and 100 words. The 500 word essay must be typed and please use #12 fonts and double space. Be sure that your name, period, date, and teachers name are typed on the top right hand side of the page and that the correct title of the essay is typed centered at the top of the page. Do not use a title page or put your essay in a folder. If any of these three assignments are late they will be counted as a no homework.
*1) The graphic organizer (20 points) is due on Monday, September 21 at the beginning of class. The student must list 5 facts about each activity and these could include the reasons for choosing the noncompetitive activity. (One day late -10 points. After that the assignment will not be accepted.)
**2) A rough draft (30 points) must be shown to your teacher on Monday, September 28 at the beginning of class. (One day late -15 points. After that the assignment will not be accepted.) The rough draft may NOT be typed. It must be hand written and be at least 500 words to receive credit. (It will be turned in and stapled to the essay on Monday, October 5. If the rough draft is not turned with the essay then you will lose 25 points on your essay grade. )
***3) The essay is 100 points and is due on Monday, October 5 at the beginning of class (the hand written rough draft must be stapled to the essay or -25 pts.) Ten points will be taken off for each day the assignment is late. If your printer breaks or you run out of ink please email the essay to your teacher by using the links on schoolnotes.com; and you must also turn in the hand written rough draft on 10/5. The email must be received before your class starts on the date the essay is due. If you are absent on the day an assignment is due you must give it to your teacher at the beginning of the period the next day you are in class or it is considered a no homework.
Some examples of noncompetitive activities are: Canoeing, Kayaking, Archery, Aerobics, Recreational Dance, Hiking, Backpacking, Fishing, Surfing, Walking, Skateboarding, Bike Riding, Billiards, Karate, Snow Boarding, Jogging, Sailing, Swimming, Water Skiing, Rock Climbing, Jump Rope, Ice Skating, River Rafting, Tennis, Camping, Skin Diving, Hang Gliding, Snow Skiing, Snorkeling, Orienteering, Yoga, Badminton, Aerobics, Golf, In-line Skating, Martial Arts, Ping-pong, Racquetball, Weight Lifting, Beach Volleyball, Bowling, Elliptical Training, Mountain Climbing, and Boogie Boarding.
