September 2009
WELCOME TO SIXTH GRADE!
Whether or not you have me as a teacher, welcome to ESMS. I look forward to seeing you in the halls if not my classroom. If I already know you, come by at least to say hello.
There are a few things you can get ready before you arrive in September. The first is to check the supply list on the district website.(See my links above) The following are on the sixth grade list and are the most important for my classroom:
1 one-inch binder which can be used for all your classes. Nothing larger is needed, especially not those huge zippered binders that are very heavy.
dividers for your binder
2 spiral notebooks (NON -PERFORATED)I found these at Target for $.50
small box of colored pencils
2 highlighters of different colors
pencil sharpener
red or green pen for correcting
pencils
blue or black pens- please, no colored gel pens
zipper pencil pouch- I prefer these to the pencil boxes because they hold less and the backpacks get very heavy very quickly. Please avoid carrying anything extra.
You should have all read Maroo of the Winter Caves by Ann Turnbull before school starts. There will be a quiz the following week and our first week's activities will be based on the book.
If your parents would like to contribute supplies to the classroom, I would greatly appreciate anything from the following list.
Paper towels
canisters of hand wipes or sanitizing gel
kleenex
wipes for cleaning tables
scotch tape for Thursday journals (second period students only)
Thanks very much, and I hope to see all of you at the 6th grade barbecue on August 28 at 5:00.
Mrs. Karen Garza
