There will be weekly homework assigned for this class. In most cases it will be assigned on Thursdays and due on the following Wednesdays. It is due at the beginning of the class period when the bells rings. It should take a minimum of one hour to be completed outside of class. In addition to the weekly homework assignments there will be some long range projects on which the students will be expected to work over several days and/or weeks. Homework may be turned-in one day late only for half credit. After one day late there will be no credit earned.

art pencils, folder with pockets, & sketchbook.
(Everything else on the list is a 'bonus.' If you don't have them, you will need to share or borrow in class.)

Assigned: Thursday, September 18.
Due: Wednesday, September 24.
Make an original creation using a food item.
Personify a fruit or vegetable.
For examples: think of the slide show you saw in class this week. That artist used apples, oranges, pears, watermelon, potatoes, tomatoes, cauliflower, bread.
Be creative. Have fun. The sky is the limit!

Assigned: Thursday, October 2.
Due: Wednesday, October 8.
Complete the "Scholastic Art" Magazine assignment.
(5 different magazines from which to choose.)
Page 1 = your written info.

The "ABCs" ART, BAND, & CHOIR Spring Edu-Tour 2009.
The ESMS Fine Arts Dept Spring Edu-Tour trip to Las Vegas, NV will take place on May 1 - 3, 2009.

2. Develop specific criteria to assess & critique works of art. (See attachment on teacher website.)
3. Apply this criteria to artwork by your selected famous artist.

Step #5 = You copy one of your artist's masterpieces.

Complete the Art Homework hand-out received in class about how the artwork made by your artist reflects his/her society. Answer 5 questions on the hand-out.

Return the entire (either red or blue) folder with all of your paperwork about your artist next Wednesday 2/4.
Short Hills Tours has just informed us that, due to the poor economy, no other Art, Band, or Choral program has signed up for the competition for Middle Schools in Las Vegas, NV. Though we are sad that we will not be able to go to Las Vegas, we have already spoken with the tour company about other locations and options. We hope to attend another competition the same weekend (May 1, 2, 3) and we will finalize the new location and exact payment total by the end of next week. At that time we will let you know all the details. We promise that our new plan will be just as fun!
We are proud that the families in El Segundo see the value in attending edu-tours and competitions. Please watch for the updated location and payment information to be sent home next week. Please hold-off on turning-in any further payments until we get our new totals, school board approvals, and other important details. It will not cost more than $400-450 (our estimated amount for Las Vegas) so the only big change will be a new location and an anticipated decrease in cost.

You must use all recycled &/or recyclable materials that have already been used. (Nothing new.)
Give your animal an eco-friendly name.
Be clever! Be creative!

Due: Wednesday, April 29.
Create a 3-D flower.
Use at least 3 different materials combined together to make it a "mixed medium" work of art.
You can use anything under the sun to create your flower, but please make sure it can stand up by itself.
Be creative, be clever, and have fun!

Due: Wednesday, May 13.
Design an image for the "Beauty & the Beach" art contest.
Stick to the theme of beach clean-up & a beautiful beach.
Only pencil/pen on Wednesday. Do not add color (yet).

mask making, bracelets, magnets, balloon hats, face painting, potter’s wheel demo, chalk murals, photo grams/pin hole pictures, ESHS students dressed as clowns, popcorn/lemonade, mime improvisation, Little Theater dramatic performances, choir and band participation, and Shakespearean Sonnets.
A special guest exhibit this year
includes work from Ms. Nguyen’s science students.
