Art Production
Art Projects: Arts projects are assigned and assessed based on the project requirements. Projects are to be worked on in class during the time allotted for each project. Students will be given appointed days when they may work on projects during lunch or check out appropriate materials overnight to complete unfinished projects at home. Once a new project is assigned, students may not work on late unfinished projects during class time. Late projects must be worked on at home or during open studio. Students absent during a project are subject to the same guidelines. Extended absences will be dealt with on an individual basis.
Sketchbook: Students will be given sketchbook assignments to be completed at the beginning and end of the class during set-up and clean-up procedures. Sketchbooks will be graded approximately six times per quarter. Sketchbook practice must be a daily routine to maximize skill development. Students who are not prepared or do not have sketchbooks with them on check date have one week to make up the assignment, but it will receive only half credit. Students that were absent have the same number of days they were absent to make up the sketchbook for full credit. Please note: sketchbooks are not considered confidential information. Any inappropriate material or references will be reported, according to West High School Standards and Discipline Procedures.
Assessment Criteria and Grading Policy
Art is an elective class, that requires constant interaction with the instructor and regular attendance because it is a hands on project based course. Therefore, it is important that you attend every day.
Students are graded in the following classroom requirements:
1. Class work and art projects 2. Quizzes/Tests
3. Art History related assignments 4. Class critiques
5. Participation and Effort 6. Craftsmanship
7. Sketchbook 8. Clean-up
The grading scale is as follows:
A=100%-90% B=89%-80% C=79%-70% D=69%-60% F=59% and below
Every project is to be turned in with a self evaluation sheet. Projects and Sketchbook handed in without a self evaluation sheet will not be graded.
Late work will only be collected within one week of the due date. Late work will receive an automatic deduction of 10% of the total project grade.
Classroom Rules and Procedures for Success

Students will work on their projects until their table is called for cleanup. Students are expected to return all checked-out materials and clean-up quickly and quietly. After clean-up, students are expected to work on sketchbooks assignments until the bell rings. At the end of the class, students are to remain at their seats until dismissed by the instructor.

Students must be at their seats working on the sketchbook assignments when the bell rings. Students may have up to three tardies each quarter without receiving an unsatisfactory citizenship grade. Students will begin each quarter with a clean slate. The consequence for a fourth tardy is detention. The consequence for a fifth tardy is TWO one hour detentions. Any student with six or more tardies will receive a U and may be subject to further disciplinary action according to the West High School Standards and Discipline Procedures.
Parent/Guardian Communications
Progress reports and report cards are my official notification of your students achievements. I believe that students want to make appropriate decisions and achieve success in art. Students are encouraged to maintain the provided project grade check form, in which their parent/guardian may also use to view their childs performance in the class. I encourage parent/guardian communication to help the student achieve this goal.
