COURSE OVERVIEW
Eighth grade English emphasizes students as a writer, reader, and speaker. As with any skill, students learn through practice, so they will write and read extensively. Students will write focused essays of varying types. Students will develop their vocabularies, spelling skills, and grammatical accuracy. Students will read, analyze, and gain an appreciation for literature, using Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes, supplemental texts, and student selected material. Throughout the year, students will learn the value of literature and communicate ideas with clarity.

GRADING POLICY
Grades will consist of the following:
-Homework
-Classwork/Bellwork
-Vocabulary/Spelling
-Grammar
-Literature Units
-Quizzes/Tests
-Writing
-Computerized Book Test/Scholastic Reading Report

These categories are weighted using percents while individual assignments are weighted using points. Grades for individual assignments are determined by comparing the number of points possible with the number of points earned.

Grades are posted periodically in the classroom by student I.D., so students have an accurate idea of their progress.

To mitigate any discrepancies between student and teacher records, please retain all work. You may pick up your work in the trays located in the classroom and identified by the class period. Note: All papers not retrieved will the thrown away the first of every month.
