Math: It has truly been my pleasure to instruct your children in math this year. They are an extremely responsible group of learners and that counts mountains in the area of math. I wish all of them the best of luck as they progress through their academic careers. In regards to math placement for next year, enclosed in your child’s report card you will find the guidelines to math placement for sixth grade. Stickers noting their possible math placement will be attached to their report cards. Their placement will not be finalized until the district receives the STAR test results in the summer. Any further questions, please contact Newhart Middle School.
Literature: The biography projects were fabulous! They were beyond all expectations! We were impressed not only with the research, but by the incredible articulation and costumes exhibited during the presentations.
Science: Last Friday marked the final science class. We ended with “The Elements” song. Students had a great time trying to pronounce and sing each element super fast! I would like to close by letting you all know it was an absolute pleasure teaching science to each of the fifth grade classes. You are all sponges waiting and wanting to absorb as much information as possible, and absorb you did! May you all continue to be scientists by being true observers of the world around you. Who knows, the Castille class of 2008-2009 might very well have a scientist who discovers a new element, or finds the cure for cancer, or invents an efficient way to clean water!
Writing/Grammar: What a great year we have had!! I will miss reading your wonderfully creative stories & poemsJ. Keep a journal this summer and record the fun & exciting things that you experience with your family & friends. It will be a wonderful memento for you years from now and a great way to remember your transition from elementary school to middle school. I will miss all of you SO much, it has been a joy and a privilege teaching YOU!!!
