Welcome back to another blessed school year! I’m thrilled to be back this year and look forward to my fifteenth year working with the best educational community in the county. Summer always seems to pass quickly, but that has not hampered the enthusiasm of our incredible faculty and staff. They spent the final weeks of summer working on our Western Association of Schools and Colleges accreditation, preparing lessons, materials, and our classrooms. Their dedication and willingness to do “whatever it takes” to make sure that each child succeeds is truly an example of the Holy Spirit at work each and every day. Of course, being a parent is one of the most important roles in which God calls us to participate. Parents and grandparents are a child’s first and most crucial teacher. If education is a priority for the family, so it will be for the student. Our Saint Rose family takes this role very seriously and is honored to share in this responsibility.
As I mentioned at the end of the school year, Saint Rose students once again earned the highest standardized testing scores of all schools in North County. In tracking students from second to eighth grade we see significant growth in reading, writing and mathematics. Our students graduate from St. Rose within the top 15% of their peers nationally and enter honor or college preparatory courses at the high school level. Each year I am honored to receive letters from alumni thanking our faculty and staff for their dedication in preparing our students for challenges beyond St. Rose.
Mr. Ken Schmutz, our new music teacher was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of our fourth and fifth grade in accepting the challenge to study music. Mrs. Maryan Infield, our art teacher will continue to display our students’ art work and will once again teach art to all grade levels. Seniora Rutiz will enrich our students with Spanish instruction and is also developing a conversational class after school for students interesting in additional foreign language development. We are proud to offer one of the finest humanities based programs in the county.
It is important for me to be a visible presence in the school building and to be an advocate for students, staff and parents. I do believe in a disciplined learning environment but feel that I am firm, but fair and caring. Children do work best when expectations for learning and behavior are clear and consistent. Our school is dedicated to maintaining not only our excellent academic standards, but our safe, faith filled family environment. I invite you to join me in what will most certainly be another exciting school year.
God Bless,
Dr. Brescia
