PRESCHOOL NOTES FROM MRS. LINDA

Week of November 2-6

IMPORTANT DATES
Nov. 11, Veteran’s Day—St. Rose will be closed.
Nov. 25, Grandparent’s Day—Our campus will close an noon.  More information will follow about this special day.
Nov. 26-27. Thanksgiving Holiday

PLEASE NOTE
Operation Christmas Child Schedule:  If your child attends on Mondays, they are participating in this mission project with their Big Buddies.  This organization has a program for people to collect items in a shoe box for children in third world countries.  These items may be small toys, school supplies and personal items such as tooth brushes, tooth paste and soap. War toys, candy and liquid items should not be included.  These boxes will be delivered during the Christmas season and will contain the Bible story of Christ’s birth in the children’s languages.
Nov. 2—Please bring $3.50 in cash to help pay the shipping cost.  It takes two weeks for the school to draft a check to cover the shipping of all our boxes.  We will be taking
pictures of our buddy teams and writing letters to the children who will receive these gift boxes.
Nov. 9—Bring to school a medium size shoe box or Christmas wrapping paper.  Our Big Buddies will be helping our students wrap their boxes.
Nov, 16—Please bring your child’s gifts to contribute to their team’s shoe box.  You may want to refer to the suggested list was sent home last week.

Monthly Faculty Meetings: Every first Friday of the month Penny needs to attend the faculty meeting.  Mrs. Donna Felgenhauer the kindergarten assistant or Mrs. Ronda Cavaletto the first grade assistant will work from 12:30 to 3 p.m. in the preschool.  
CURRICULUM:  
For the month of November, our topic will be focused how God loves us and our families.  Our Zoo-phonics animal this week is dee dee deer.
This week for Large Motor:  The children will practice balancing on the balance beam and wobble boards.

Monday, November 2,       Linda’s teaching plan
Literature: Today I will be reading “All About Deer” by Jim Arnosky.   This book helps our students learn about the deer family and they survive.
Creative arts: Our students will be making their own paper deer puppets.
Fine motor and Zoo-phonics: Our students will be making their own letter D book.
Big Buddies:  Operation Christmas Child Project:  We will be taking pictures of our buddy teams and our students will draw and write letters to the children who will receive the gift boxes.  Also, please remember to bring $3.50 to help cover the cost of the shipping of the shoe box your child and their buddy will be putting together.
Personal Safety Program:  Today our lesson will be on fire safety and what your child should do if they find matches.
Journaling: After this safety lesson, our students will be drawing about making safe choices with matches and fire.
Afternoon Curriculum: Today I will read “Detective Dog and the Disappearing Doughnuts” by Valerie Garfield.  Our students will decorate their own paper doughnuts.  

Tuesday, November 3,     Penny’s teaching plan
Literature: "God Knows," by Kevin Shortsleeve. This is about the way God knows everything about us.  "Who Am I," by St. Paul’s Media.  This is about how each child is a child of God and has a family.
Prewriting: The children will trace write the letter Dd.
Spanish:  The children will be doing a shape and color activity.
Fine motor skills: The children will draw a picture of themselves.
Math exploration:  The children will color their own dinosaur bingo game.
Cooking: The children will be making a snack with square shaped crackers.
Personal Safety Program:  Today our lesson will be on fire safety and what your child should do if they find matches.
Journaling: After this safety lesson, our students will be drawing about making safe choices with matches and fire.
Afternoon Curriculum: "That's When I'm Happy," by Beth Shoshan. The children will be making their own book about the story

Wednesday, November 4 ,   Linda’s teaching plan
Literature:  I will be reading “I Wish I Had Duck Feet” by Dr. Seuss.  This humorous story is about a young boy who wishes he were a duck.
Creative arts and Fine motor skills: Our students will be paper duck feet and duck masks.
Zoo-phonics:  Our students will be making a puppet with a pocket to put pictures of objects that start with the letter D.
Physical education:  Our students will build their endurance skills by running/walking around the track.  Afterwards, we will play various parachute games.
Pre-writing:  Our students will practice writing their names and the letter D.
Afternoon exploration: Our students will be playing various counting and matching games.

Thursday November 5,    Penny’s teaching plan
Literature:  "God Provides for Me," by Clever Factory.  This is about how God provides for a mother and her cub through the seasons of the year.  I will read these stories "God's Wonderful World and Gifts, from the book, "I Learn About Jesus Book," by Mary Elizabeth.  "Sharing Makes Me Happy," by Dot Cachiaras.  This is about sharing toys and art materials with friends.
Journals:  The children will draw about sharing something with friends.  This helps them assimilate the teaching that sharing pleases God and helps children feel happy making the right choice.
Science and Creative Art:  The children will be making family pictures using leaves they collect from the playground.
Fine Motor:  The children will be cutting out dee dee deer head bands and they will cut out a dog lacing card. The children will use play dough. This helps them exercise their small motor muscles that are needed in writing.
Afternoon Literature: "The Giving Tree," by Shel Silverstein.  This is about a little boy who grows from a boy to a man and he depends on a tree for shade and other things he needs to build throughout his life.  
Game:  The children will play an I spy game.  This game is using language skills to describe an item they see in the classroom.  Other children will guess what item is being described.

Friday, November 6,     Olivia's teaching plan
Literature: "Dinosaur Roar !" by; Paul and Henrietta Stickland
This story is about dinosaurs of every shape and size. We will race, roar and stomp through this colorful book of opposites.
Language arts: the children will be writing both upper and lower case letter "D" using D'Nealian manuscript handwriting we will also work in our journals asking about, what were some dairy products we used in our cooking snack today?
Fine motor skills: Our students will be making a "D" mini book by coloring , cutting, pasting and putting into numerical sequence.
Creative arts: Today we will be painting deer using a dot method.
Cooking activity: The children will be participating in making a double baked potato using various dairy products while following directions to make a healthy snack.
Afternoon Literature: "Have You Got My Purr? by Judy West.  Our students will make their own book related to the story.
