Kindergarten Parent Notes
June 8, 2009
Dear Parents,
Well, I can't believe this is the last week of our amazing year together. A big thanks to the Capozzoli family and all our parent helpers for our wonderful ocean discovery day...it was so much fun! I am so proud of every one of our students. I am looking forward to watching them grow as they continue their journey at Saint Rose. Thank you for a wonderful year! Our school wouldn't be the special community it is without the support we have from you! Enjoy your time with your children this summer and cherish the memories you are making.
The biggest question at this time of year is "What should I do this summer to help my child keep him/her learning and practicing skills learned this year?" The number one best thing you can do is read. Children enjoy books read aloud to them that are higher than their reading level. As you read, they learn important reading skills. Read every day. Have your child read books to you as well. The books they read should be at a level they are successful with. Simple books with small words and word wall words are perfect. Second, keep practicing and reviewing word wall words. Every child was assessed and brought home a list of words to practice and review. Third, encourage your child to write. Keep a journal of the summer, write short letters, etc. As for math, play number games, and dice games. These will keep them using numbers, adding and subtracting. Whiz Kids has some great games to help review skills. Practice numbers too. This can be done anywhere - I spy numbers in the car on a road trip is a great way to practice. Mostof all, have fun!
