Classroom Expectations:

1. Be on time.
2. Sit at your assigned workstation.
3. Show respect for property: Computers, books, desks, etc.
4. Do not bring any candy, food, or drinks to class.
5. Remain at your workstation until class is dismissed.
6. Do not disturb fellow classmates and do not talk when your teacher is talking.
7. Do your own work.
8. Leave your workstation clean and neat.
9. Make an appointment for make-up work when you return from an excused absence.
10. Observe school policies.


Software Survey Syllabus:

Description: The major purpose of this class is to provide the student with a broad and general knowledge of the computer and it's use. This class will use several different software programs to obtain the course objectives.

Course Objectives:

  • Apply basic typing skills.
  • Be familiar with the computer parts and functions.
  • Be familiar software programs such as Microsoft Office.
  • Have a general knowledge of computer vocabulary.
  • Have a general knowledge of computer history.
  • Use mouse skills for computer graphics.
  • Use keyboarding skills for word processing.
  • Use organizational skills for database creation.
  • Use mathematical skills for spreadsheet creation.
  • Use desktop publishing skills for common tasks.

Proper Keyboarding Technique:

Posture:  Sit up properly in chair. Feet in front of chair on floor. 6-8 inches between body and table edge.

Arms:  Elbows at sides. Wrists/palms low but NOT touching frame of the Keyboard or the table.

Fingers:  Curved and upright position over homerow (only the finger tips touch the keys). Use correct fingers on all keys from homerow Make quick, sharp strokes, quick release

Special Techniques:  Space bar: One thumb with quick, sharp stroke Enter/Return: Use right little finger from home position. Shift Keys: Use opposite shift key from hand typing the letter. Use littlefinger from home position. Keep eyes on copy/book, most of the time.

Work Habits:  Follow directions. Use time efficiently; keep concentration. Keep a "I CAN; I WILL TRY" attitude.
