SchoolNotes.com - Linking Educators to the Community
The goal of the S.P.N. Resource Program is to assist children to reach their full potential. Some children's needs can be addressed within the classroom, others require more support. I collaborate with teachers and parents to provide individual and small group support.

IMPORTANCE OF PHONICS
Research shows that knowledge of letters and their phonemic awareness (conscious awareness of speech sounds) is most important to children's later progress in learning to read. If you need suggestions of things to work on at home I'll be happy to share ideas.

I am here on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays all day. Please don't hesitate to contact me! I do check email regularly so you can email me anytime!

WHAT IS READING FLUENCY?

IT IS THE ABILITY TO READ TEXT WITH SPEED, ACCURACY AND PROPER EXPRESSION.

WHY IS FLUENCY IMPORTANT?

IT PROVIDES THE BRIDGE BETWEEN WORD RECOGNITION AND COMPREHENSION.

WHAT CAN BE DONE AT HOME TO IMPROVE FLUENCY?

1. ECHO READING: YOU READ ONE LINE WITH EXPRESSION AND THE CHILD REPEATS AFTER YOU. HE SHOULD FOLLOW THE PRINT WITH A FINGER AS YOU READ.

2. CHORAL READING: READ THE TEXT TOGETHER.

3. PARTNER: TAKE TURNS READING.

4. REPEATED READING: READ THE SAME BOOK MULTIPLE TIMES.
