    This is your opportunity to perform in front of the class

•    Speech must be 15 lines or more
•    It must be memorized and grade will be based partly on dramatic presentation and on written analysis.
•    Can work with one other partner
•    Project will be turned in on _______6/5______
•    Project needs to include a typed version of the lines that will be presented and ˝ page typed interpretation of these lines.

Tuesdays with Morrie Project

•    Read Three Cups of Tea and discuss with Mr. J by 5/15

•    Create a high school version of Tuesdays with Morrie. This needs to be accompanied with a written script it can be performed live or video taped. Assignment will be evaluated on how well you incorporate Morrie’s ideas. Up to four people in a group is okay.

•    You can also do the same as above by yourself but then you just need to create the written script. 3-4 pages

•    Read one of the following: The Dalai Lama’s How to Practice: The way to a Meaningful life or Dan Millman’s The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, or B. Alan Wallace Genuine Happiness or a Cynics guide to Happiness by Don Zinzell or Conversations with God part 1  and compare/ contrast these ideas to Morrie’s through your notes. You and I will then review those notes in an interview at a later date.

•    Volunteer at a senior community center or convalescent hospital. Five visits with each one written in a journal. If you choose this option you must clear it with me.

•    Learn to dance the Tango. Dance must be preformed in front of the class. Written report on where this dance comes from and its significance 1 page.

•    Write a detailed analysis of Morrie’s philosophy. 3-4 pages typed.

•    Create a power point presentation to be given on two of the following philosophers focusing your efforts on ‘how can humans achieve happiness?’ Socrates, Aristotle, Plato, ( Please pick only one of the Greeks)  Jean Paul Sartre or any other existential philospher, Frederick Nietzsche, William James, David Hume, John Dewey, Dalai Lama, or John Locke. This needs to be 11 slides long with at with the last 3 sides devoted to Morrie’s philosophy for happiness.

Every day this week students are preparing for their in-class essay test which is Monday and Tuesday next week. If you are absent please get notes from a classmate.


Week of 5/12
Essay test this week and then we are starting Tuesdays with Morrie. If students are absent they will need to make up journal writes.

Journal #1 p. 18 Pick on of Morries Aphorisms to discuss the importance in this idea in you own life.

Thursday
Journal #2 p. 40 Tension of opposites. Explain this idea in your own life.
