What are students learning this week?

___________________________________________________

In Reading classes (Periods 1 and 2) we are enjoying our new book, Flipped, by Wendelin Van Draanan. It is a humorous and touching book about love and friendship. We will focus on point of view and theme during this book journey.

In Reading 5th period, we are reading Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. We will learn literary elements, study vocabulary words and practice character analysis while reading this fantastic book. We will try to watch the 1960's film version as well!

In Writing classes, we are practicing our spelling and working on adapting a movie scene. Students have chosen a movie scene to adapt and act out on video.

This week, students will write a short script as group. This will be classwork. Later students will film their movie outside of school and occasionally at school.

Then we will play these at the end of the year for all Raskobians!  Please encourage your child to use weekend and afterschool time on this. They may need to meet with their group mates outside of school hours to accomplish this task. Thanks!

Speaking of... students need to watch the clip online or on a dvd AT HOME. I cannot use class time to do this!

HOMEWORK! for May 4-8

Reading Period 5: Each night read a personal reading book and write a summary paragraph. Please follow the paragraph format suggestions on the bright blue format page in your binder. Paragraphs due each Friday.

This week we will be analyzing characters (how they act and think)  in our new book, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. We will record our findings on a character chart that will remain in your binder throughout this book "journey."  Please be prepared to take a quiz on Friday, May 8th. The quiz will be based on this chart, so paying attention in class and advocating for yourself is highly suggested!

Study your weekly spelling words. These are in your writing section of your binder. Test Friday May 8th.
If you have not yet, watch the movie scene you are working on.
