Assalamu aleikum, dear students and parents,

Our first story is "Flowers for Algernon".

This week students will have many opportunities to work in pairs, as usual. We will talk about analogies, idioms, metaphors, and similes.
We will do a lot of writing. Our first writing genre is a personal narrative. This week we will focus on brainstorming and organizing the ideas for a story, summarizing it, and making a timeline for the plot.
It is important to keep the significance of the story in mind as well, and to be able to elaborate on it.

Vocabulary words:
to verify = to prove something is true
to mislead: to lead somebody in the wrong direction or make somebody do something wrong
to refute: to prove something is wrong
to vindicate: to prove somebody is innocent, to provide defense for somebody
to vilify: to talk evil about
obscure: to hide a fact, to hide from being observable
deterioration: a worsening, a becoming weaker, desintegrating
regression: going back to a previous and less advanced stage
tangible: results of something, you can feel or see them
invariably: always
introspective: reflective, looking inward
