SUPPLIES HOMEWORK OVER BREAK: ALL STUDENTS NEED TO PURCHASE 2 PENCIL SHARPENERS THAT THEY CAN KEEP IN THEIR BACK-PACK AND 1 BOX OF COLORED PENCILS. THEY SHOULD HAVE THEM ON THE MONDAY AFTER BREAK.
COSTUME DONATIONS NEEDED:
Mrs. Bohren is looking for donations to help make a class "wardrobe closet". Throughout the year, students enjoy making history come alive by frequently performing skits set in ancient times. In addition, after the November break, students will be performing the play "A Christmas Carol". If any parents have costumes or props to dontate that would be appropriate for any of the following 7th grade units of study, please send them to the office, attention "Mrs. Bohren, room 4":
Charles Dickens period for Christmas Carol...Ancient Civilizations Costumes: China, Rome, Islam, Africa, India, Japan, Central America (Mexico-Maya, Aztec), South America (Inca/Peru), Middle Ages, and the Renaissance, The students will greatly benefit from your generosity!
***" A Christmas Carol": We will be studying and performing the story of Scrooge for the three weeks after break. Students are assigned a role to perform as we read through the play in class. They were asked to review their lines in the textbook over the break. They don't need to memorize their lines but they should be practicing putting "pizazz" into their speech and getting into character! Students should search around the house for props and costumes, like scarves and hats, pantaloons with long socks, old world hats etc...that would go with Charles Dickens era style. I will have some props here in the classroom for them to use if they can't find anything. The cast for the play is listed underneath the Social Studies Study Guide at the bottom of this web page. There will be a final test on the play and students will be placed in groups of 4 to act out a scene as part of their grade on the last Thursday before the Winter break. I am also working on a possible field trip to watch the new digital film "Christmas Carol" that is just coming out in theatres. I will keep you posted!
Students should keep all of the flashcards they make throughout each trimester. We will use them over and over again. Please make sure they are not thrown away, for both history and language arts!!
AFRICA: We are studying ancient Africa. I posted the study guide for this unit at the bottom of this page and will also be giving the students a hard copy. Students were also given their assignment packet sheet for the unit. Students will be working at their own pace to complete the packet at home. The unit has a culminating project, worth a lot of points. Just as a reminder, history projects will be given throughout the year. I encourage students to use everyday household objects to make their projects. Frequently, these come out so much better than store-bought kits. I don't expect any student to spend a lot of money in creating their projects. Creativity and effort is what I am looking for. Project guidelines are listed on the assignmnent sheet.
-CAFE ACADEMIA NEWS: Students should read chapters 7, 8, 9, and 10 over Thanksgiving Break.
TEXTBOOKS-We have new textbooks this year in Language Arts and we only have enough books to have a class set. This means that students do not have an extra book at home to read if they get behind or need extra reinforcement. However, the textbook is available online. In addition, you can also check out a CD of the book from the library. The CD has all of the stories on it for students to listen to out loud. This is how you can access the textbook online:
1. go to www.classzone.com
2. find the link for "online book"
3. It will ask for your password/user information
4. User name: 7lit
Password: Camerado
ESCHOOLS ONLINE GRADES: Here is the schedule of when math, language arts, and history grades will be posted for the entire year: 9/11 10/2 10/23 12/18 1/22 2/12 3/5 3/26 4/30 5/21 6/11 (and all grades will be updated the week of each close of the trimester)
Remember, you were given a pass code to get onto the eschools web page at Back to School Night. If you were not able to attend that night, you can pick up your pass code from the office. They can not be given over the phone.
