ClassJump Language Arts; charts, wordlists, and stories that tie into standards
15 March,
Spelling words this week: four, funny, long, watch, were, cute, gallop, hurry, sprint, scramble.
In Reading we are looking at Tall Tales. Please share with your student some tall tales from your experience- Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan, etc. and enjoy the wonderful exaggeration that is part of these stories.
Idioms- expressions that mean more than just the words that make them, such as "cut it out!" are things we'll be looking at this week. Share with your child expressions that you used when you were little. Some are remarkably long lived, such as: "cool", which goes back many generations. Others are more closely tied to their generation- in mine, we said something was "boss", you might have said. "rad" or "awesome". Help your student understand that language is a living thing, and that expressions come and go- 23 Skidoo!
We continue with the scientific process. Ask your student to make observations about something and then support them with data= for example, what kind of animal life have you seen in the yard? What things are in the environment that are attractive to these animals?
Mrs. Hernandez' General Store is working out very nicely, and we are using up our merchandise, so if you are able to donate items for the children to purchase with their earned money, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, any parents needing to earn hours are encouraged to check with Mrs. H. She is very good at providing tasks!
The Box Top collection continues- please check packages at home for the Box Tops for Education label, then cut it out, and send it in!
Here comes St. Patrick's Day! We've been talking about St. Patrick and also the seven Sacraments. Your child should be able to tell you a bit about Baptism, Eucharist, Holy Orders, Matrimony, and so forth.
Minimum Day with Mass this Friday!
I hope everyone enjoyed their day off. We teachers had a very useful time of fellowship and reflection. Thank you for your support. Mr. S.
