Monday, 15th, 2008
Today each student was assigned to work on the computer as their math homework today. Their assignment is as follows:
Type in www.schoolnotes.com, then type in 98311. Find Mrs. Samson’s name and click on it. Above the homework notes are 3 links (in blue) to various math websites. For 25 min. Click on aplusmath.com and the other cites to see what fun activities there are. Write on a piece of paper a summary of what you found and what games you played.
If you do not have a computer or have internet access, please do some other math activity during this time (math game, cards with family members, etc).
Reading: Read national Geographic (wind at work)and learned how to take cornell notes. HW: Finish reading pgs. 20-21 and take notes!!!!!
Science: Science notebooks, constructing them ourselves!!!
Friday: Worked on a really cool art project!! You will see it on Open house.
Thursday 9/11/08
We talked about the significance of 9-11 and some of the memories that they have.
No rotations on Thursday. We talked about the five themes of geography and how we are going to study ourselves and then move into getting to know a different ancient civilization.
We started an art project: Puzzle pieces that reflect ourselves. Working on them in class, we are not taking them home.
Fundraisers went home today. They are due Sept. 30th. All items will be delivered Oct. 28th.
Wednesday 9/10/08
Math: worked on math facts and used manipulatives to make arrays to show the factors of certain whole numbers.
Reading: Worked on making connections. Homework is to finish worksheet.
Science: Worked on Potential and Kinetic energy.
Other: Parent responsibilities sheet due, letter to Mrs. Samson due Thursday if not turned in today.
Tuesday 9/9/08
Math: Learn your math facts (10min. a night)*Pick them up at the dollar store for cheap!!
Reading:No homework, but worked on Making Connections, "When I read this part, it reminded me of.........."
Science: Continued to talk about Kinetic and potential energy.
Writing: HW to write a letter to Mrs. Samson about themselves-Family, likes and dislikes, dreams, favorite things. Due Wednesday, 10th.
Start an authority list(see sample paper in binder) in their writing notebooks.
Monday 9/8/08
Math: pgs. 14-20 #1, 5, 7, 28 and 29
Reading: Reading goals and how to choose a book.
Science: How does energy work? What is potential energy? What is Kinetic energy?

math: Took a pre-assessment, it is homework if not finished.
Reading:We took Mcleod Comprehension Test, STAR test, and a one minute fluency test.
Science: Learned about potential and kinetic energy!!
Band: newsletter came home.

We've made it through our second day of school!! Yippie!
Math: We talked about expectations and our math goals (homework tonight).
Science: Discussed the book, experiments, and expectations.
Reading: Talked about reading goals and expectations. *Reminder: All National Geographic magazines are to be hole punched and kept in binder until needed for class.
Other: Read Parent letter and get it signed and return tomorrow.
Teachers battled the sixth grader in kickball!! I think we tied!!! ahahaha.
We started writing in our planners, so be sure to check them out to see if your student is writing in there.
