CONVERSATION WITH PARTNER
VIDEO PORTFOLIO PROJECT

You are a college student attending a sign language workshop at Gallaudet University. There you are meeting other ASL students from all over the US. Introduce yourselves and exchange information about each other’s school life. Pick a city or state that has both a name sign and that you can describe by gestures. (ex Seattle – space needle, New York- statue of liberty) Please include a new name for yourself (3 -4 letters long), name of college, type of housing, how you go to class, and information about your teacher (new name also). You need to have positive and negative statements, WH and Yes/No questions in your dialog. This will be filmed in class on  Dec 13,14.

ASL II
ABC & NUMBER STORY
VIDEO PORTFOLIO PROJECT

Now that you have learned about ABC and Number stories in ASL, you have the opportunity to enjoy this form or poetry by creating a story of your own. You may choose which one you want to do.
ASL-II students need to create a basic story. An ABC story needs to have all 26 letters and a number story needs to be 1-20 or 1-10-1.
ASL-III students need to have a story with a more complicated number pattern or words. You will be graded for clarity of signing, understandable story line, prosidy and overall creativeness.
This will be performed in class on Dec 15,16.

What’s going on in November?????

ASL I
We are starting Unit 4 “Transportation & Housing.”
Our next video project will be a Copy Sign of the “Bus Stop Riddle.” due the last class before Thanks giving break.
Students will copy this short story onto their personal videotapes to be able to practice it at home. We are beginning to learn about Classifiers. We are continuing to read our novel about Laurent Clerc in class.

ASL II
The Copy Sign of “ABC Gum” was to be due today and tomorrow. But there will be an extension for those who need it. As many of you know, we lost one of our students, Ryan, last week. This has broken many hearts.
I will have a camera set up in the corner of my room for students to film their story on their own. Please remember to dress appropriately on the day you film.
We are starting Unit 9. We will be learning about different types of verbs in ASL, dollars and cents, and making requests. We will be starting section 2 of our novel.
Our next video project will be a sign song.

10/19/04
ASL-II
In the next two weeks we will be finishing up our Classifiers unit. Our final video project with this unit will be a copy sign presentation of Ella Mae Lentz' version of "ABC Gum." Students may copy this onto their own video tape to take home for practice. Also it will be available daily during tutorial for in-class practice. The story may seem a bit long, but it can be easily divided into 5 parts. I recommend that it be studied one part at a time. It will be presented by students on Nov. 1st & 2nd.
Students, if you by chance become ill on the day of the presentation (as did happen with our last project) you are expected to come in during tutorial on the day of your return to school to present if you want full credit. :-)

ASL-I
We are now working on "Around School" and will soon begin "Transportation and Housing."
We are also practicing Deaf conversation techniques.

That's all for now.
