SUPPLIES FOR 2008-2009



Please make sure you have all supplies everyday.

  - black or blue pens
  - pencil
  - college ruled paper
  - composition notebook
  - highlighters (yellow, blue, pink)
  - binder
  - sticky notes


Optional items include:
  - pocket dictionary
  - pocket thesaurus

Students in English 10 and 11 AP Language & Composition need to be reading a book outside of the classroom reading assignments.  It is requested that students have books EVERY DAY.

We have been looking at sentence structure.  If you are interested in more practice, go to the Owl at Purdue and type in Active and Passive voice.  They will take you through a tutorial.

HOMEWORK:


SOPHOMORE ENGLISH:



Students are working on their Literary Analysis for Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe.  They are developing their idea of theme, using the text as evidence. Last day to turn these paper in is 3/27/09

Every other Friday students have a Vocabulary Quiz, next quiz will be March 27.

Every other Friday students have a Spelling check next check will be Friday, April 10.

Students will be developing their own "Cinderella" story.  This will be due the week of March 23, 2009.

Students have two options for their outsiding reading book report.  The rubric is located in my electronic out box.  Projects will be due Thursday, April 9, 2009


JUNIOR AP LANG/COMPOSITION:



AP Test Prep is April 14 @ 8a.m. in the Library

Students research papers will not be accepted for resubmission or grading after March 27, 2009.

Students should be finishing up their "Play Report". They will be considering how this play follows the Freytag dramatic plot arch.  Information and rubric are located in my "out box" on-line. Reports will be due the week of April 7.

Students are developing a persuasive speech based on their research paper.  They will be giving their speeches the week of March 27.

-Every other Friday will be a Vocabulary Quiz. Next quiz is April 17.

-Every other Friday there will be a Spelling check. Next check is April 10.


CREATIVE WRITING



Students are developing pieces to begin looking at for writing workshops, which will begin March 23.  

  
Students should be working on The Author/Mentor Project.  This will be due April 7, 2009,. Rubric is in my "out box".  This is a major assessment and needs to be complete and well constructed in proper MLA format.  Check out OWL@Purdue on line - see link above, "Writing Resource".
