Freshman Orientation Letter
August 15, 2008
Greetings Bremerton High School Class of 2012 and families!
I hope you have had a restful summer vacation and are ready to begin your high school career the Knight Way in 2008-2009. I am looking forward to having you join our school as Freshmen.
Half of your day will be spent in the new wing with just 9th graders in your English, Science, and Social Studies classes. All other classes will be taken in the main building and you will be mainstreamed with the upperclassmen as appropriate.
Freshmen Orientation will occur on Friday, August 29 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. We have a 3.5-hour program dedicated to Freshman ONLY that is designed to introduce our ninth graders to the high school and make them feel a part of the Knights family from the first minute they walk through the doors. The program is called LINK CREW and involves responsible juniors and seniors in a welcoming and mentoring environment at BHS. Bremerton High staff members will be present and on-hand to assist in the process as well. The Freshmen students will have a welcoming assembly, some leadership training from their peers, a tour of the building, a chance to pick up their class schedules, get pictures taken for ID card, and receive locker assignments. ASB cards will be available for $35. Yearbooks will be on sale for $50.00. Icons and personalization of the yearbook is available for an extra fee. Save $5 by purchasing your yearbook during orientation. We will provide lunch for them lunch at 12:00.
The first day of school is Wednesday, September 3, 2008. School begins at 7:20 am that morning and concludes at 11:55. We will hold all six classes on this day on shortened periods, just long enough to familiarize yourselves with your new teachers and classroom locations.
The students will receive lots of important information about classes, counselors, contact information, handbooks, syllabi, email lists, etc., over the first few days of school, so please look over all the information that comes home.
Our goal is to wrap around this class of Bremerton achievers and provide a safe and high quality educational experience. We hope you are excited about the next four years of learning and additionally, encourage all students to find an extra-curricular activity or sport to get involved in immediately, and take advantage of the many opportunities that are available to our students.
I look forward to meeting each and every one of you throughout the upcoming year. Please call 360-473-0800 for additional information about the start of school, or any clarification you may need.
Sincerely,
Aaron Leavell
