HOMEWORK

LANGUAGE ARTS: p. 487 C & D

SOCIAL STUDIES: Ch. 17 Sec. 3

LITERATURE: Fine a new book to read - your choice as long as it is a different genre than you usually read.

Dear Parents and Students:

Language Arts: Now it's time to be a little more creative with our writing.  We are focussing on description and establishing a mood.  Various assignments help to show the use of figurative language, sensory images, and "showing" not telling.  We will eventually write a full-fledged mood essay.

Social Studies: We have just begun our study of what led up to the Civil War through the Reconstruction.  We will debate the issues, view "Race to Freedom" about the Underground Railroad and view part of "Gettysburg."

LLITERATURE:
We are reading literature that coincides with American history:  a novel about the Civil War and a partial biography of Harriet Tubman.
