FOR TEACHERS

1. Registering to Create a SchoolNotes Page

You only need to register one time to establish your free SchoolNotes.com account.


To register for a free SchoolNotes page, you will need to


  • Go to www.SchoolNotes.com and click on "Teachers Register Here" in the right-hand margin.

  • Enter the Zip Code of your school, followed by the other requested information.

  • Please double-check all fields for typing errors. Once you have double-checked, click on the "Submit Registration Information" button at the bottom of the form.

  • If your requested User Name has not already been taken and you supplied all the required information, you will receive a message stating you are now registered.

  • If your requested User Name is already taken or you are missing some information, the system will ask you for what is needed to complete the registration.


2. Logging in to Edit Your SchoolNotes Page

To log in and edit your Notes


  • Go to www.SchoolNotes.com and click on the "Edit Notes" button located in the left margin.

  • Enter your school's Zip Code, the User Name you've established, and your Password, and click on the "Log-in" button.

  • Once you are logged in to Edit Notes for the first time, you can create your SchoolNotes page. You return to this Edit Notes page of course to edit your page.

  • Once you have finished entering your notes, scroll to the top of your Edit Notes page and re-enter your password in the left-hand margin of the screen. Then click on the "Save" or "Save and Notify" button. It is important that you go through this step of saving your work.

  • The "Save and Notify" button will save your changes and send an automated e-mail to everyone on your Notify Me list (see step 3, next).

  • If you made only minor changes (such as correcting a spelling error or selecting a new background color) and do not need to alert your Notify Me list, then you would only need to click on the "SAVE" button.

  • After your notes have been saved, you can click "View" to see if they look good. If you need to make changes to your notes, go back to your Edit Notes log-in.

If your changes don't show up in "View," you may need to Refresh or Reload your Internet browser. The browser may be saving the previous version of your page and showing you that from its cache.


If you are connecting from school, your school's network may also use a server which stores Internet pages and shows them "new" perhaps only once a day, in which case your changes might not be visible from within your school network until the day after you saved your changes.



3. How to Use the Notify Me List

To set up or modify your Notify Me list - the e-mail addresses to which the system will send notice when you click "Save and Notify" - you start at www.SchoolNotes.com.


  • Click on the "Account Management" link located in the upper right margin. Enter your school's Zip Code, the User Name you've established, and your Password, and click on the "Log-in" button.

  • Click on "Show Notify List" and create or edit the list of e-mail addresses to which you wish notifications be sent when you "Save and Notify."

  • The tools to manage this list should be familiar to you, such as "Delete."

  • You can also send out a personalized message to all parents/students who are signed up to be notified by clicking on the "Notify All" link in the lower left corner of the bottom of the notify list. Once you click on this link you can type in a personalized message and send it out to your parents/students.


Remind parents periodically to inform you of any changes in their e-mail addresses or their students' ones, if they're separate.



4. Adding Favorite Links

To add "Favorite Links" to your SchoolNotes page, log in to Edit Notes (See step 2).


  • Once you are logged in, click on "Favorite Links" located in the upper left margin. This will bring you down the page to the "Add Your Favorite Web Links" section.

  • Select whether you want your list of Favorite Links to appear at the top or the bottom of your SchoolNotes page. You can add up to 20 different links to other Web sites of interest. For each link, you can copy and paste or type the URL into the space provided and then add a comment.

  • When you are done adding or editing your Favorite Links, click on the "Back to Top/Save" link located in the left margin. Enter your password and click on the "Save" button. (You may Preview your page to make sure you like the way your changes look!)


5. Changing Your SchoolNotes E-mail Address or Your Display Name

To change your SchoolNotes e-mail address or display name, log in to Edit Notes (See step 2).


  • Click "E-mail / Name" located in the upper left margin of your Edit Notes page. This will bring you down the page to the "Edit Your Email Address Here" section.

  • Check to see if your e-mail address is correct. If you wish to change it, click on the field with your mouse and then type your correct e-mail address, using the Delete key to delete characters that are not needed. When you are done editing your e-mail address, click on the "Back to Top/Save" link located in the left margin, enter your password, and click on the "Save" button.

  • Your display name, that is, the one that is shown in the header box of your SchoolNotes page, can also be edited from this location.



6. Updating Your School Web Address

To update your School Web address or other School information, log in to Edit Notes (See step 2).


  • Click on the "School Info" link located in the upper left margin of your Edit Notes page. This will bring you down the page to where you can edit your school's web address.

  • Check to see if your school Web address. If you need to make changes, click on the field with your mouse and then type the correct school web address, using the Delete key to delete characters that are not needed.

  • Check to see if your other school information is correct. If you need to make changes, click on each field with your mouse and then type the correct school information, using the Delete key to delete characters that are not needed.

  • When you are done editing the school Web address or other school information, click on the "Back to Top/Save" link located in the left margin, enter your password, and click on the "Save" button.



7. Customizing Your SchoolNotes Page

SchoolNotes has provided a few choices for customizing your SchoolNotes page, including background and text colors and background patterns. To customize your SchoolNotes page in these ways, log on to your Edit Notes page (see step 2).


  • Click on the "Colors" link in the upper left margin of the page. This will bring you down the page to the "Edit Notes Page Colors Here" section.

  • Click on each field with your mouse to select the desired color for text and background.


Do not select the same color for both text and background or your text will be invisible.


  • When you are done selecting your colors and backgrounds, click on the "Back to Top/Save" link located in the left margin, enter your password, and click on the "SAVE" button. You will probably wish to View your page to make sure you like the way it looks.



8. Adding Flashcards

Your SchoolNotes page comes with a useful "Flashcard" feature. You can create simple electronic flashcards your students can then use independently anywhere they have access to the Internet. You must first log in to your Edit Notes page (see step 2).


  • Click on the "Flashcards" link located in the upper left margin. This will bring you down the page to the "Enter Flashcard Here" section.

  • Click on the text input box with your mouse and type one flashcard per line. Each time you hit the Enter key, it will push your to the next line, which will create a new flashcard.

  • Example: Type 5 + 7 = on one line and hit the Enter (return) key. Then type 12. The first line will be one flashcard showing the problem and the second will be the next flashcard, showing the solution.


You can use these not only for math, of course, but for short-answer and other formats as well. Type "What is the capital city of North Dakota?" (for example) then hit the Enter key and type "Bismarck."


  • When you are done updating your flashcards, click on the "Back to Top/Save" link located in the left margin, enter your password, and click the "Save" button.

If you create flashcards, a "Flashcards" link will automatically appear on your SchoolNotes page, in the top header section, for your students to access. They will simply click on the link and the Flashcards will be displayed in the order you've entered them.


9. How to Change Your Password

  • To change your password, go to www.SchoolNotes.com and click on the "Account Management" link located in the upper right margin.

  • Enter your school's Zip Code, your User Name, and your current password and click on the "Log-in" button. If you would like to change your password, click on the "New Password" section and enter your new password, then re-enter your new password to confirm.

  • If you wish to change your "Password Reminder," click on box to the right of Password Reminder and enter a reminder that can be displayed should you forget your password. Then enter your current password and click on the "Change Password/Reminder" button.



10. Deleting Your SchoolNotes Page

If you need to delete your SchoolNotes page, you will need to go to SchoolNotes.com and click on the "Account Management" link located in the upper right margin. Enter your school's Zip Code, your User Name, and your password and then click on the "Log-in" button.


If you wish to delete your SchoolNotes page, click on "Delete Account." You will then need to re-enter your password and confirm that you wish to delete your account.


Important: Your free SchoolNotes account generates one SchoolNotes page. If you delete this page, you are deleting this account, and your User Name will no longer be active, your SchoolNotes page no longer visible on the Internet.


It is important to remember that you will want to Edit your SchoolNotes page, not to Delete the Account, if you merely want to change what is on your page, even if that change involves all the content you are currently displaying.





FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS

1. Finding Your Teacher's SchoolNotes Page

If your teacher has a SchoolNotes page, you can view it by going to www.SchoolNotes.com. Click on the "View Notes" button located in the upper left margin.


Currently, all SchoolNotes pages are listed by school Zip Code.

  • Enter the Zip Code of your school. If any teachers have SchoolNotes pages within this Zip Code, those pages will be listed by the last name of the individual teacher.

  • If there are no SchoolNotes pages in this Zip Code, double-check the Zip Code, check with your teacher to make sure he or she has registered his or her SchoolNotes pages using the correct Zip Code.

  • If your teacher has not established a SchoolNotes page yet, please suggest he or she goes to www.SchoolNotes.com to get started!


2. How To Get Notified When Your Teacher's SchoolNotes Page Is Updated

  • If you would like to be notified when your teacher updates his or her SchoolNotes page, please go to www.SchoolNotes.com and click on the "View Notes" button at the top left.

  • You will then be asked to enter the Zip Code for your school.

  • Find your teacher's SchoolNotes page in the list of pages available within this Zip Code and click on it.

  • Click on the "Notify Me" link located in the header box.

  • You will be prompted for your e-mail address and your first and last names. Once you're sure you've completed this information correctly, hit the "Process Notify Request" button.
