As you know by now, you CAN'T ESCAPE GEOGRAPHY (or Economics)!  Because of that, you have examples of The Five Themes of Geography and aspects of economics all around you.

As you go about your daily life and routines, look at newspapers and magazines and search for happenings that are part of the 5 themes and also Economics, cut them out, and bring them into class to place on the Geography and Economics bulletin board.

Every student must bring in at least one submission by Thanksgiving Break.

  • MR LIP
  • Movement
  • Regions--an area of land that has common features. A region can be defined by natural or artificial features. Language, government, or religion can define a region, as can forests, wildlife, or climate.
  • Location
  • Interaction--the ways in which humans interact with their environment. Here are some examples of this:
  • The use of natural resources
  • Deforestation
  • Energy resources
  • Oil and gas drilling
  • Water resources
  • Relationships between human activities and the surroundings
  • Vehicle production.
  • Littering
  • Place--what makes a location unique and special*

Economics:

  • supply and demand
  • market economy
  • command economy
  • buying and selling goods and services
  • full employment
  • production
  • human capital (skills, knowledge that people bring to the table)
  • entrepreneurship (starting a business or brand or inventing things)

*A place is an area that is defined by everything in it. All places have features that give them personality and distinguish them from other places.  If you refer to your school as a place, then that place would include walls, windows, gym, cafeteria, classrooms, people, clothing, books, maps, mops, brooms, hallways, etc.
I have already placed some articles from the newspaper on the bulletin board.  One example is an article I found about solar power; I pinned that next to the poster of Human-Environment Interaction.

Geography and economics are everywhere, so let's notice them!

Topics (Units) covered to date in TCI:
