Welcome!

This is the page that I maintain for my Honors Global Studies class. The assignments on this page are for my Honors class ONLY. Please make sure you are on the correct page. I am looking forward to this year and can not wait to meet all of my students and parents/guardians.

Here is a basic supply list for the class:

  • 1 inch binder
  • notebook - we take lots of notes and this will keep them organized
  • pens and pencils
  • OPTIONAL: dividers for binder and a folder
  • students should come to class prepared to learn and with supplies each day
I can be reached via email [email protected] and check email up until 8PM each evening and on weekends. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
 
Wednesday August 26th
All opening day paperwork is due back by Wednesday September 2nd. All About Me is due tomorrow if you did not finish it in class today. 
 
Thursday August 27th
Introduction Letter and Shield are due on Wednesday September 2nd. World Map is due on Friday 8/28.
 
Monday August 31st
There will be a check-in on the notes we took in class today. You are able to use your notes on this check-in. Shield and letter are due Wednesday September 2nd.
 
Tuesday September 1st
Check-In postponed until Wednesday due to fire drill today. Remember that your shield and letter are due tomorrow- September 2nd. Chapter 5 Guided Readings are due Friday September 11th.
 
Wednesday September 2nd
Complete any work on the Renaissance Station Activity not completed in class yesterday and today. It will be collected on Thursday. Open House is Thursday September 3rd from 6:00 until 7:30. Chapter 5 Guided Readings are due Friday September 11th.
 
Thursday September 3rd
Complete the Printing Press graphic organizer, if not completed in class. If you were assigned a current event this week, it is due Friday September 4th.
 
Friday September 4th
Worked on the cover for the Time Magazine today in class. On Tuesday we will begin working on the essay in class. Here is the schedule for completion:
Tuesday 9/8 - Write draft of essay in class and complete at home if necessary
Wednesday 9/9 - Peer Edit and begin work on revision in class
Thursday 9/10 - Type final copy in class.
Friday 9/11 - Turn in final copy and complete reflection.

Here is the schedule for the essay:

Continue to revise your essay in class and peer edit using checklist

Type essay in class

Friday, September 11th

Essay due

Your essay should be 500 words in length.

 

Wednesday September 9th

 

Use the feedback you received in class today to help revise and finish up the final draft of your essay. Tomorrow in class you will be typing the essay. Final essay must be printed and turned in at the start of class on Friday September 11th. Your Guided Readings for Chapter 5 are also due on September 11th.

 

Thursday September 10th

 

Final copy of the Printing Press Essay is due at the start of class on Friday September 11th. Bring a printed copy of the essay to class with your cover, graphic organizer, and peer edit sheet. Guided Readings for Chapter 5 are due tomorrow September 11th

Monday September 14th

Complete the questions with the Renaissance reading handed out in class today. They are due on Wednesday September 16th. Complete Review Guide for test on Thursday September 17th. The review guide will be collected and graded.

Tuesday September 15th

Friday September 18th

 

We are now done with the fall I Ready test. Great job!  Over the past 2 days you have been given 2 readings on the Reformation with questions. If you did not complete these in class, please complete before Monday 9/21. 
 
Monday September 21st
No homework tonight - remember that Wednesday is a delayed opening. Enjoy the extra time to sleep.
 
Wednesday September 23rd
Complete the Martin Luther Reading and Questions and also the Counter Reformation Reading and Questions - both are due on Friday September 25th.
 
Thursday September 24th
If you did not finish the Source Analysis/Primary Source Packet in class, complete for homework. This is due on Friday 9/25.
 
Friday September 25th
Work on the Graphic Organizer for the Martin Luther Assessment. Make sure you coordinate with your partner and are ready to start putting together the project on Monday. You will have Monday (9/28) and Tuesday (9/29) to work on this in the Computer Lab and Library with computers. this assessment  is due at the start of class on Wednesday September 30th.
 
Monday September 28th
Today you worked with your partner in the Computer Lab on your dialogue assessment. tomorrow meet in the library to complete this. On Wednesday 9/30, at the start of class, your completed dialogue is due. On Thursday 10/1 there will be an open note check in on this unit. Stay tuned for more information.
 
Tuesday September 29th
Your Martin Luther the Rebel Dialogue is tomorrow at the start of class. make sure you come to class with your dialogue printed. If you are rewriting your Time Magazine article on the printing press, it is due Monday October 5th. 
 
Wednesday September 30th
Reformation Check In is Thursday October 1st. This is an open notes check in so organize your notes tonight. If you are rewriting your Time Magazine article, it is due on Monday October 5th.
 
Thursday October 1st
No homework tonight. New unit starts tomorrow! Meet in the library to complete a Web Quest.
 
Monday October 5th
No homework tonight. Look over your notes from today to make sure you understand what we went over today.
 
Tuesday October 6th
No homework tonight. Stay tuned for information on the upcoming Exploration Project that will be your summative assessment for this unit.
 
Wednesday October 7th
No homework tonight. Getting closer to finding out about the summative project for this unit!

No homework tonight. Project introduction is coming soon.

You received the Galileo Wanted Poster assignment today. This poster is due on Wednesday October 28th. There will be a full day in class on Friday to work on this. Reminder that you have your unit test on the Age of Exploration and Scientific Revolution is on Tuesday October 27th.

Don't forget to turn the clocks back one hour this weekend! Complete the England chart if not completed in class. You should also complete the Philip II readings and questions for Monday 11/3

 

Monday November 2nd

Thursday November 5th

Puppet Shows are on Friday November 6th. Come to class with a final printed copy of the script (1 per group), planning sheet ( each person must turn one in) and all of your puppets and props. You must be ready to present at the start of class. We will be drawing numbers for the order of presentation.

Retakes of the Age of Exploration/Scientific Revolution will be on Thursday November 12th after school. Please notify Mrs. Talbott on Monday November 9th if you wish to retake the test.

Complete the rough draft of your dialogue before class on Tuesday. You will be completing the final copy in class on Tuesday and it is due at the end of class. Test on the Age of Enlightenment is on Wednesday November 25th.

Complete the Guided Reading 11.1 for class tomorrow.

If you are planning on redoing the essay portion of the test, please remember to pick up an organizer for the rewrite. Your rewrite is due on Friday and needs to be a 5 paragraph essay complete in MLA format. If you have any questions, please come see me before or after school.

Thursday December 3rd

Complete the Causes of the French Revolution 1 and 2 Questions if not completed in class today.

Remember if you are rewriting the Open Response from the test it is due on Friday 12/4. You must turn in the organizer, test and the final essay. It should be a  5 paragraph essay, typed in MLA format.

Continue to work on the French Revolution storybook in Storybird. The first 2 chapters are due on Friday 12/12/15. The finished book is due on December 22nd at the start of class.

December 11th

I will be commenting on your stories over the weekend. Monday we are back in the classroom to learn some more about the French Revolution and Napoleon. 

Monday December 14th

Complete the Reign of Terror questions if not finished in class today.

Napoleon readings and questions are to be completed for Friday December 18th.

We are back in the library for the next 3 days - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - to work on the French Revolution Children's Tale.

Monday December 21st

French Revolution Storybook in Storybird is due tomorrow December 22nd. Comments have been made on your stories and I urge you to read them and correct the errors. If you did not finish the Napoleon packet in class today, please finish for homework. You will need this for in in class essay you are writing tomorrow about Napoleon.

No "Official" homework over the break but students are encouraged to start organizing materials to prepare to take Mid Term Exams. The Global Midterm will begin for ALL students on Monday January 11th. Review will begin the week we return from break.
