Upcoming Events

Sure feels like Autumn now! A breezy hello to all of our families and caregivers! What an awesome week we have had in Pre-K 2. Our third week of our ‘Welcome to School’ unit has kept the children busy and productive. We made our own class book of teachers and classmates, it’s on display in our library now. As you know, we have been focusing on building a positive classroom community this past week. Our classroom is a wonderful place where every child should feel valued, respected and supported as they learn through various activities.

We read stories and literature about pro-social behaviors. Pro-social behaviors include using words to work through a problem- and not our hands as well as, using nice words to speak to others.  Children listened to many “magic words” they could say to ask for help. We call polite words such as “please, thank you, you’re welcome, excuse me, and pardon me,” magic words, because if you use them, people will want to help you more. Together we brainstormed times when we could use magic words and made a class chart of our responses. Finally, we will continue to model and support children in using magic words every day throughout the year.  Our class is very excited that they have together earned 14 brownie points for good behaviors and words they have used each day. We only have 6 more to go until we get a special homemade brownie snack. Great job Pre-K 2!

Next week is our final week of the Welcome to School theme. We will concentrate on meeting some of the other people in our school that make our day great such as: Mrs. Fusco our principal, Mr. Leo our custodian and Mrs. Guido our school secretary. Our class will be going on a school tour to meet and talk with these very special people that make our school a success.

In addition to a school tour, children will be working on making a special class mural together to culminate the new friendships they have made thus far. Ask your child if they can recall some of their new school friends. We read several stories revolving around going to school for the first time and meeting new people such as: “Chrysanthemum” written by Kevin Henkes and “Hands Are Not for Hitting” by Dr. Agassi. Ask your child if they can recall some of the parts of the stories we have read in school. Reading to your child everyday will help to build skills that children need to become great readers. Here is a short article about the benefits of reading to your child. Click below to read:
