The Fifth Commandment
The Fifth Commandment—You Shall Not Kill
The Fifth Commandment teaches us that all human life is a gift from God. God shares his life with each and every one of us. Of all God’s creation, only we are made to love God and grow in his friendship.
The Fifth Commandment is based on the belief that all life is sacred, created by God. To follow this commandment we must respect and protect human life. We must value life in all that we do.
During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught about the Fifth Commandment. *Check out this short video on the Sermon on the Mount. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ze7w3-BL3OM

Living the Fifth Commandment requires us to respect all life and the dignity of all people. Human dignity is the value and worth each person has from being created in God’s image and likeness.
This gift gives us the ability to think, to make choices, and to love. Human dignity makes us someone, not something. It makes us equal with one another.
Ways in which we can live the 5th Commandment:
We take care of the ourselves and the needs of others
We live a healthy life
We show respect for the life we have been given
We give food to the hungry and care for those who are sick
We don’t do anything that could harm ourselves or others
