October 13, 2014

Wednesday and Thursday are Parent Teacher Conferences. We will have half days of school. Students will be dismissed at 12:00pm. Conferences begin at 1pm on Wednesday and Thursday and end at 3pm. Thursday, 10/16, will also have an evening session starting at 5pm and ending at 7pm. Parents are asked to come during the allotted time and wait in the hallway for the teacher(s) they would like to see.

A lot of students are getting close to being 1/4 of the way done with the 40 Book Challenge. It is very exciting to see so many students engaged in reading. There are some incentives to the challenge that have been added within the past week.

  • After reading 1 book, and completing an index card for the book, students will receive a FREE book coupon for Scholastic Book Club.
  • After reading 10 books, students will receive another FREE book club coupon.
  • If students complete the entire 40 Book Challenge, they will receive a special, surprise gift.

The 40 Book Challenge is NOT a requirement, however, the Reading Response Journals ARE required. Students are expected to be reading each week. This book (or books) that they are reading should be talked about in their Reading Response Journal letters.

We finished our first read a loud book, The Fourteenth Goldfish. Our class really enjoyed the book. We have begun our Global Read Aloud book, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. We are continuing to work on our Mysterious Beeping Noise stories, and our studies of verbs.

I look forward to a fantastic week with you all.

Welcome to Ms. Stamer's Homework Page for 4th & 5th Grade Science, as well as 5-21 Language Arts.

It was a pleasure to meet so many of you at Parent/Teacher Conferences. I mentioned to several parents the chances for extra review. In  our science textbooks, students may complete the End of Chapter Review pages to further review knowledge. Lighting Labs, Go Green, or At Home Labs are also great ways to continue the learning at home. Please contact me for any further information.

October 13, 2014

We are moving along through our new textbooks. It is exciting to see all that we have learned so far. During the weeks, we will also be adding an experiment or two to our schedule. During this time, I may ask students to bring in some supplies. If so, you can check this page and our Homework page for more information.

We postponed our Chapter 2 test from 10/9 to 10/16. The test WILL happen on Thursday 10/16. Students have received a study guide. The study guide will also be posted to Edmodo for review. The study guide at the end of Chapter 2 is also quite helpful. Students may complete this study guide for more practice.

Our 5th Graders have been working on creating a parody song. 5-21 is completing a Scientific Method song to "Rather Be". 5-20 will be working on a Design Process song. This is an exciting time in our science class, as we learn to apply our knowledge to an unique project. We will also begin our Physical Science unit soon. We will start with learning how to classify, describe and measure matter.

Conferences will be held on Wednesday and Thursday from 1-3pm and Thursday from 5-7pm. I look forward to seeing you there.

During this time, I may ask students to bring in some supplies. If so, you can check this page and our Homework page for more information.

We are beginning our third unit of study for the year...Physical Science. This unit encompasses a lot of different things. The first chapter talks about Matter, how to classify matter, as well as how to measure and describe matter. We will be using Chapter 7 in our textbooks for this part of the unit. Students should always bring in their notebook, writing utensils, and highlighters to class.

Conferences will be held on Wednesday and Thursday from 1-3pm, and Thursday from 5-7pm. I look forward to seeing you then.
