I am very excited for the school year to start. I have been thinking a lot about all of the wonderful things we will do in class. Here is just a small sample of the ideas I have for our class.

September 15, 2014- International Dot Day

September 21- 22, 2014- Pinwheels for Peace

October 6, 2014- Start of the Global Read Aloud

November 1, 2014- Start of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)

I have many more ideas. Don't forget to do your summer reading assignments. They are due the 1st week of school.

I am very excited to be your teacher this year. I have high expectations for all of my students. I believe that everyone has the potential to go to college. It can be whatever college you want; Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Penn State, or even Ramapo College of New Jersey (Go Roadrunners!).

Here are the top 6 things you should know about me:

1.I am a coffee addict. I love coffee, especially Caramel Lattes. Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, local cafés, any place with good coffee is a place I want to try.
2. I love to read. I enjoy reading anything that has a good story to it, or that is entertaining to read. I read the first three Harry Potter books between 4th and 5th grade. I also went to almost every book release from book 4 on.
3. Flowers make me smile. I really enjoy Sunflowers, Tulips, Daisies, and Lilies. I feel like flowers and plants can brighten up any day.
4.  I love owls, pandas and anything with animal print on it. You’ll notice the owls around the classroom throughout the year.

5.  I enjoy the ocean, the shore, and anything nautical. I love spending part of my summer down at my shore house, or going to the boardwalk at Ocean City.

6.  I LOVE my alma mater. I attended Ramapo College of New Jersey. RCNJ is located in Mahwah, NJ (Bergen County). It’s a beautiful campus that has both the “Big campus” feel and the “small campus” feel. I ALWAYS show my Roadrunner pride.

I have many different ways for you to stay connected with what we are doing in class on a daily basis.

One of these ways is this SchoolNotes page. You should only look at the page that applies to you. For example, if I am a 5th grade student in homeroom 5-20 I will only look at the 5th Grade Science page.

Another way to stay connected is through Edmodo. Your code will only give you access to your class period's group. You will only see the information that I post to your group's page. Check out the "How to Sign Up for Edmodo" document under Files.

Remind 101 is yet another way to stay connected and up to date with everything going on with class. See the seperate blog post about Remind 101 later in the summer for more information.

I also have a Twitter account that any parent or student can follow. I will tweet out things I want students to be reminded of, important things that happened that day, or interesting links.

Our Class Instagram account works the same way. It is a PRIVATE account and only students or family members that I approve of will be able to see the pictures. I will use this to help remind students of what we have learned, or of homework due soon.

I look forward to staying in contact with you using all of the wonderful applications technology has provided us with. As always, email and phone are other great ways to communicate with me.

Enjoy your summer.
