We will continue this week with student presentations on famous crimes involving blood spatter used as evidence to convict suspects. We will then conduct a lab involving blood typing and also angle of spatter to determine directionality and identify the source.
We will start the week with a summative evaluation, to complete our pre-chemistry unit. The remainder of the week will be spent studying the periodic table, and how it is ordered by groups and families with common properties. We will prepare for the 2nd summative of this marking period, a project involving making a Bohr model of an element from the table, by learning the structure of an atom and showing it using a model.
We will continue our study of blood and blood spatter analysis. The cadets will present a case involving the use of blood spatter to solve a criminal case starting on Tuesday 11/27. The rubric for the summative oral presentation and slide show/poster is attached.
This week we will conduct a density exploration lab to continue preparing for the chemistry portion of the course. We will learn about the interactions of energy and matter, and demonstrate the Law of the Conservation of Matter in lab. Changing the reate of reactions will complete the week as we define a catalyst, and observe what it can do to accelerate the rate of a chemical reaction.
Entering our chemistry unit, this week we will study the properties of matter and the behavior of matter in solutions and mixtures. We will demonstrate the Law of the Conservation of Matter with some simple experiments. We will have a quiz on mixtures on Friday, 11/15.
